************************************
WHAT I WORKED ON THIS PAST WEEK!  Not that I actually FINISHED anything... BUT this is what I WORKED on (in addition to babysitting, ignoring the housecleaning, being frustrated with the rain/mosquitos/weeds/hour of the day for gardening, and reading a LOT of books!- new homeschooling catalog arrived!!!)
The OLD homeschooling catalog.
Has more than 1350 pages and over 50,000 books and learning tools
This year's update of the catalog -
ONLY the new stuff - and already it has over 800 pages.
Now titled VOLUME 1
Virginia Bound from Scraps & Shirttails by Bonnie Hunter.
I have a lot (but by NO means do I have ALL!!!)  of the center parts of blocks done
I started working on this when I looked at my sewing room and the overabundance of SCRAPPY fabrics!!!

Flying Geese from Sew Quick Scrap Quilts by Leisure Arts

Pineapple Quilt from Sew Quick Scrap Quilts by Leisure Arts
A couple of blocks were started - BEFORE I found the directions to my pineapple ruler

(No picture - sorry!)
American Beauty from 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts by Evelyn Sloppy
Some of the blocks were cut out.  Currently frustrated with fabric choices!

Down the Garden Path from 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts by Evelyn Sloppy
This will use up a LOT of scrappy fabrics!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have some of the scrappy pieces cut out.
Will work on the rest all this week - LE style!

      Stash Report for Week 26 - 06-28-15

06-28-15 - Week 26 - Urgh!  STILL no quilt finishes this week!  Of course,I DID keep being distracted - and started 3 other NEW projects!  But only because I truly do NOT like pressing - at least not until I'm actually doing it!  AND I did get into my scrap basket AND scrap box (well, one of them anyway!) and DID re-purpose, toss, use up at least a half basket's work of scraps!  NEW ones (including some I had barely started before this week) include Virginia Bound (with gold, browns and red strips and a spice of green), a pineapple thingy, and a courthouse steps thingy!)  Now that I've gotten THOSE started, I can take a deep breath and get back to the stuff I was supposed to do anyway!

Design Wall for Week 25 - WB 06-22-15

This week is the study of.....

I don't know what!  Errors, maybe.  Frogging (rippit, rippit), definitely.  Screaming frustration, probably!  Still and all - I DID get quite a bit done - even considering that I team babysat with Evan and Lilly, which is always a joy!  And even considering that I got home - dragging myself the last few minutes, skipped the dinner hour because I was usually asleep - only to wake up at midnight, of all things!, absolutely ravenous!

So maybe this design wall would be about what I DID do, what I PLAN to do, and what happened along the way!

First thing - the pictures are old.  They weren't planned that way.  Unfortunately when a battery gives its last gasp - that's it!  And my camera is one dead puppy - at least until I get some new batteries!  And I HAD planned on new pictures!  so - now you have to "put up with"/tolerate (or not!) descriptions and OLD pictures (or even NO pictures!) - at least until I get new batteries - which probably won't happen until next weekend!

      BINDING
Detail of the Log Cabin Quilt that I'm binding.  My dd did all the quilting!
I want to finish this this week!
      TO BE FINISHED THIS WEEK
      QUILTING
I may do some quilting on more table runners - especially if I run short of time.

      PIECING
This is where I had planned to put a BUNCH of pix!
Unfortunately, now they have to wait until NEXT week!

      Eons old sampler blocks -
I have a few online I could post - but those were sent.  The ones I want to post now are the ones I want to send to their original owners in the swap group.  As soon as I get batteries, I'll post both on here and on old email addies for the individuals.

BLOCKS TO BE POSTED AND ON THEIR WAY/OR AT LEAST PIX POSTED TO OWNERS BY END OF WEEK

      Virginia Bound -
What do you do when you are more than busy enough, bored with the stuff that you HAVE to do - like cleaning, studying, and at a frustrating point with some old projects?
Why - you start a NEW project!  In this case - Bonnie Hunter's Virginia Bound from her "Scraps and Shirttails" book!  And you make string blocks of it in these lovely fabrics that you just "happened to come across"! and in lovely colors of golds, browns, reds with a spice of green plaids!  FUN!

      Re-making valences into baby blankets
First of all - these were blocks that some folks sent me way back when I lived in a different house - with a gazillion windows! Secondly - the blocks were made into valences - but NEVER used because I moved before they could be.  Thirdly - the fabrics really are for a little one and while they actually would fit nicely in MY room now - they will work better as crib blankets!  and will probably make 2 or 3 blankets for little ones.  Colors - pastels of pink, green, lavendar and the fabric that I sent to the various folks in the group - which has little bubbles or dots of each of the colors - all on an off white and/or unbleached muslin.  Original idea as a valence (now that idea is scrapped) was the blocks on point with picotee lace sewn to the bottom edge.  Fortunately I don't have the lace, so that never happened!

TO HAVE FLIMSY DONE BY NEXT WEEK

On Point BOM by Bits 'n Pieces
This Sampler BOM takes place over 9 months and is our quilting group's project for the year.  I can't say I've been a regular since I attended exactly 2 meetings - the first one (when I dithered around and whatever I did had to be done over) and the 5th one where I worked on making the binding for my Log Cabin - because the LQS (local quilt shop) had big enough tables - and I don't!  Plus I have 4 cats who LOVE my quilts!

I completed the first block and have 2 others in progress!  Pictures will follow - eventually - when I get new batteries.

TO BE CAUGHT UP BY NEXT SUNDAY!

      APPLIQUE
      Halloween hanging.
And there I was - sewing away, almost done
and decided to take it out of the frame......
when I found I had sewn the applique TO the frame!  Sigh!
HOPEFULLY to be finished this week!

      SWAP

Swap blocks for my dd are finished and were sent on the way!

Stash Report for Week 24 - WB 06-14-15

This has been a BUSY week!

That being said - while I AM obviously counting the Halloween TR completed - I am not going to count the eons old blocks completed - at least until either they have gone back to the folks who wanted them or have been included in a charity quilt.  On Point blocks, however, won't be counted until the entire quilt is done!

      ........................................................................................

      BUSY week!

      BUSY week!!!!

First of all, I finished a T.R (Halloween) - and posted about that!

Then I caught up on a swap of HSTs with my dd Wendy!  And even sent that! (should arrive - Monday? or Tuesday?)

Last night was Open Sew at the LQS - and I FINALLY got the binding attached to the Log Cabin Quilt - and know that this coming week I will be spending quite a bit of time hand sewing that!  Am sooooooooooo glad to getting that done - that quilt is HEAVY! and I love it!!!!!!

Also last night at the OS class, I did block one for the On Point BOM quilt class!  No pix yet - but they will be there - plus I will be posting pix on a separate page as well!  (which means - it will be time for me to take down one of the other BOM - as soon as I quilt it and put THAT on the BTDT page!)

And all of this while team babysitting for Evan and Lilly! (for only part of the day - 1 PM on to 5 or 530)  Love those babies! and am definitely getting my baby fix in!!!!  LOL

As for the garden - well, let's just say that the ground is quite fertile - and LAST year's potatoes came up in the middle of the tomato/pepper patch and are doing WONDERFULLY!  Much better, in fact, than those planted in the potato patch!  And the weeds are doing wonderfully as well!  Definitely I need to get my bunions outside tomorrow for a short time and get that weeded!

As for the house..... ummmmmmmmmmm - yes - there is a house and I do believe there is such a thing as housework!  Need more be said?

Today I'm finishing up the last of the eons old swap blocks, then will be working on the On Point BOM some more!  And THAT will finish up the FAB 4 (or 5 or 6 or 7) list!

So - I will be posting the NEW FAB 4 list as well! (which will include hand sewing the binding on the Log Cabin!)

Halloween Table Runner is DONE! And so is the Passover T. R.!

I don't remember whether or not I ever posted a picture of the completed Passover Table Runner or not!  I completed this sometime in either February or March.

Passover Table Runner - You can't really see it but there is a leafy vine that I FMQ'd in the center of the gray with black and red flowers that journeys up to the other end of the T.R.  For a first attempt at FMQ - I didn't do too badly!  (And no, we WON'T discuss the mess that was SUPPOSED to be a many petalled flower that I removed over a period of several weeks!)

This is a closer view of the same T.R. - but you STILL can't see the pattern - just that there is SOMETHING that was done SOMEHOW SOME WAY on the fabric - good, bad, or indifferent!  (BTW - this was completed and bound either the last of February or sometime in March - I can't remember!)

The Halloween T.R. - just finished the binding this AM!  A lot more FMQ - but you can't see it, even if I did use black thread!  It shows up more on the back, but when I took pix of the back, all I got was a lot of pumpkin glare!  There are cobwebs (NO spiders, TG!), a cat with an arched back, a witch flying in front of a moon, a ghost, a bat as well - and you can't see them in the photo.  FTM - because the fabric in places is so dark, you can't really see them in real life either, although you can FEEL them - even if I did use black thread!  (I may go back and re-quilt the design - either with black again or more probably with a glow in the dark thread!)  Considering my non-expertise though, that may not be an altogether bad thing!  I did have a lot of fun working on this one though!

Design Wall for Week 23 06-08-15

All of this is dependent on whether or not I finish up the 2nd half of my SB UFO challenge (I put 2 smaller projects, table runners, as an UFO challenge item).  If I don't get them done before Sunday - then they will appear here, if I do - they might appear here - in their finished state!!!!  (YAY!  Just finished the binding on the Halloween T.R.!!!!  Now to find out whether or not the Passover TR - done some time ago - is indeed the other half of this UFO challenge #!!!!!  Picture to follow in a separate post - as soon as I figure out where I last hid my camera!)

In the event that I have more items to post...............

      BINDING
THIS is the quilt I intended to post that still needs binding!  Want to work on this Fri eve - when I have use of the LQS big tables!

      QUILTING

this will be for additional table runners - 1 or 2, depending on complexity and size

      PIECING
Any remaining piecing or re-doing (this is the January UFO number challenge)

      APPLIQUE OR HAND PIECING
Part of the Halloween Wall hangings - this is one of the 2 May number challenge UFOs

      SWAPS

No picture (yet) - but will be working on 150 HSTs for my part in the trade with Wendy!  2.5 Aqua (or blue) and white!

Stash Report - Week 23 - 06-07-15 OR 4 FQ, 1 yard WOW and a discussion about buying a quilt shop

I needed some WOW (white on white fabric) and some Aqua - at least that was my "rational lie" that I told myself - so I went to the LQS.  While there (First thing out of my mouth) I expressed my sadness that the shop would close its doors by this time next year.  Inquiring further, I discussed the particulars of the quilt shop (I have several thoughts in mind and definitely would want to invest in it - if at all possible) and definitely do not consider it unreachable - particularly for the very going concern that I know this to be.  So - I'm thinking about it - strongly!

As for the WOW, etc. - I bought 1 yard WOW, and 4 FQ aqua (out of aqua, definitely out of WOW - (white on white fabric)!) and am pleased!  It was HARD to not buy out all my favorite fabrics!  But I managed!
