Whatever happened to days 3 and 4 of the Quiltathon?????

Hmmm - it seems I forgot to post!

Day 3 of the Quiltathon was Saturday - and - courtesy of my forgetting to take my meds until LATE in the day - I thought I was energizer bunny and went on a rampage - of cleaning, quilting - and whatever!  At the same time I was still exhausted from Friday's teach on no sleep and wanting to quilt - and not able to stay awake past 640 PM!

So - Saturday my dd and I played telephone chore tag (we take turns - work our you know what off for 15 minutes so we can feel virtuous - and then sew for the rest of the hour - and one of us calls the other at the end of that time - and we check in and see how much we got done!  It works GREAT! - how to clean or whatever - AND play!)  So I got my laundry done, my room thoroughly cleaned up - even cleaned up the sewing room, etc. - AND worked on the QOV for a bit and listened to audio tapes (The Cat Who.... mysteries)  Didn't finish anything - mostly because I quit early - too much energizer bunny going on in my system!

Sunday I worked on and nearly finished the little Twister quiltlet - again playing telephone chore tag with my daughter - and getting in my son's way when he was trying to put up my shelving in the laundry room (but couldn't - he had forgotten to bring his tin snips) - and still had a bit of Energizer bunny raging around - at any rate the house DID look good - BEFORE I moved all the stuff in the laundry room OUT of there so son could work on the shelving!  Stuff now is in the kitchen as well as on the couch in the family room!  Hopefully shelving will be able to go up on Thursday and I can get this awful mess cleared up.  Hopefully!

Oh yes, - I also spent 1.5 hours looking around for the black that I wanted to use for an outside border for the little quiltlet (table centerpiece thingy) - only to find it when I was showing a friend some of the quilt things I had completed as far as flimsy status was concerned!!!!

                  Quiltathon - Day 2

First of all - today was a teaching day - social studies for Middle school - great kids and I enjoyed myself thoroughly - would have liked more hands on the teaching end however - but all in all it was a good day!  Only a couple times did I have to remind the kids that we were NOT outside and that it was a good thing to quiet down to a small whisper!

Which to me is one of the disadvantages of public schools - mostly because I'm usually the noisiest one there!

Game plan for today includes class tonight - Open Sew! and Arizona Skies!
Arizona Skies - aka Tequila Buzz - and I need to make sure all my blocks are the same size!  Then sew them into blocks, sew those into rows, then sew rows together, attaching the plain inside border - all this before even beginning on making the middle border!

The Mini Twister - I need to cut this into the appropriate size and shape for the Twister blocks, then sew those into rows - and then into a top!

All this - and then fix supper too! and if possible work on lesson plans (archaeology) and the dininng room - although I think the last two may need to be worked on tomorrow instead!

                  Quiltathon - Day 1

This, of course, is provided I don't get called in to teach today!  Or that (more usually) my son doesn't call me with a half dozen "mom please do" items - which is actually more probable - and vitally necessary!

                  MENU FOR TODAY

B: Rolled oats with apple, cinnamon, brown sugar, butter
L: LO casserole of some sort (look in refrig, then freezer)
D: The stir fry I didn't fix last night! with cabbage - and go through lo veggies.
                  ...............................................................................
First break - FINALLY finished pressing the QOV blocks - AND taking apart those that didn't quite work right (WHY can't I sew folded corners so the corners are STRAIGHT with the bottom part of the block!!!!!!)  Also started trimming and "standardizing" the size of the blocks (was SUPPOSED to be 6.5" for each quarter - I'm going with 6.25" and hoping that works!)  Taking a cottage cheese mid-morning break (may also snack on peanut butter filled apple too!)  Wanting a caffeine fix as well - esp a hot mocha! which I am NOT going to have since I'm wired enough as it is!
                  ...................................
Lunch break - decided to get car inspection done while on lunch break (bought food from McD's) and so took my hexies with me so I could feel virtuous about this being a quiltathon!  LOL - they were done with the inspection before I every finished unpacking my hexie shoe box! Let alone figuring out WHERE I put the needle threader! LOL  Now I know where to go everytime I have my car inspected!

                  Quiltathon - Day Four

Oh boy, this is really pouring the pressure on!  Day 4!  Already!

I think today I'm starting with my OTHER quilting projects.....

                  1) I'm behind (again!) on my sampler - so that's first - and I need to catch up!  May post (later) individual pictures of each of the 16 blocks.  Maybe!  That's a LOT of pictures!

                  2) Threadhead - DEFINITELY want to get this done!

                  3) LE - get the lilacs all ready and then to sew as LE today!

                  4) Twister - DEFINITELY want to get this done as well (class is a week from today!) - object here is to have it ready to slice and dice - then this coming week to do just that!

                  5) I really NEED to work on my sewing project as well. Sigh!  Not a lot to finish - so hopefully will be able to do that.

                  6) Hurricane Sandy project - uhm - finish this one up I think - debating - one more round? or 2?  one more round will make this 10.5 inches.  Two will make this 13.5 inches (which is why I'm have to put this one all together and so on - then take it either as flimsy or completed quilt - it needs to be 12.5 inches - not more, not less!  Ugh! I used the wrong size strips (forgot I had moved all the 2.5 strips to the drawer ABOVE the one that I used!)

Well - that's the game plan and I had best get my rear in gear!
                  ...........................................
                  1) Walking foot Sampler is now caught up!  Pleased with MOST (not all - I am having problems with straight lines today!) of what I've done!  Will post pix later - possibly on a separate page one picture each block!

                  2) Threadhead Sampler Mini-quilt is ALMOST done - will take a picture (probably 2 - one front and one back) when it is.  However I will still have some FMQ to do - which will be later this week!

                  ...................................................
Still to go - finish the TH sampler quilt - the walking foot part, Twister - getting it ready for slice and dice (ie, re-sewing 2 seams - they don't quite match - drat it!), then back to Hurricane Sandy for the next 2 rounds. IF there is time - work on Charm Around. And then later - in front of the TV - Hexies!
                  ..........................................
                  This is later....
                  1) Finished the walking foot stuff on the TH mini-quilt - still a little bit of FMQ to go - and binding as well.
Threadhead Mini Quilt Sampler - Finished the remaining 2 corners.

Not sure if you can see it - but this is the back - should show all the Stitch in the Ditch that I did

                  2) Restitched the Twister quilt - uhhhhh - looks about the same - the blocks don't quite match - ALMOST match - but not quite - at least on 2-3 of the rows.  Otherwise looks great.  Am POd tho - because all this will show up when I do the final slice and dice!

                  3) Hurricane Sandy - along with a little Frogging - because I seem to have a problem of darks staying dark and venture off into the wild unknown of mixing the lights and darks up!  All straight now - but have 1.5 rows left on each of the blocks.  Quit stitching when I realized I stitched the block to the wrong side of the strip!  :P

Made it to Disk 7 on Cecilia Ahern's If You Could Only See Me Now.  LOVE that story!

For now - am fixing fake crab croquettes, smashed potatoes, beets, maybe some peas, cinnamon apples for dessert!  That and reading probably for the rest of the evening!  More tomorrow!

Oops! Forgot to post! Day tres - Quiltathon!

uh oh - I am in truuuuuubbble!!!!  I forgot to post yesterday!

Quick summary of yesterday - a leisurely breakfast (late getting up) - with making homemade bread that was GOOD!!!! It spread instead of rising! :/ - but then I'm not sure I had the right amount of flour in there - lost count somewhere after 2 cups flour! And it ACTS like it had ONLY 3.5 cups flour (bread machine - but THIS recipe makes a LOT of bread - I use 2 cookie sheets to bake it on - one loaf per sheet, to give you an idea!

No chores to speak of - headed in to sew - but first I played on the computer - checked email and all that stuff! Then a friend called and we chatted while I finished up the last of my chores. After we hung up my dd called and we chatted for a bit and both of us fixed lunch about the same time (I fixed mine - ate it later!)

All that to say I didn't start serious sewing until about 1230 AM - and worked on the Hurricane Sandy project for about 4 hours.

By that time I was sleepy enough that I decided to take a nap.

Note to self: DON'T take a nap late in the afternoon and above all, IF I DO take a nap in the afternoon - SET the alarm!  I woke shortly after midnight, said a few words, ate something, and went back to bed!

                  Quiltathon - Day Dos

While I didn't finish everything yesterday - I did make headway.  Triangles are done - as stated - and I showed the progress on both the hand sewing project as well as Hurricane Sandy project.

                  Today's Goals are.................

Hand Sewing - The Hexies again - hopefully to finish up the one for Lynn and Nathan.

Machine Quilting - an hour's worth - on the Sampler (on going) and also with Stitch in the Ditch on the Threadhead Quilt (hopefully remembering to use invisible thread!)  Should finish this.

Piecing - Leader Ender - getting the Lilac quilt sliced and diced and underway on stitching the rows together LE style

Finishing the 3 seams needed on the Twister Quilt - prior to the re-slice and dice. Should finish this today to that point.

Hurricane Sandy Log Cabin - should finish this today as well. All 20 blocks. I may be a gibbering idiot when I'm done - but I WILL finish it!

Charm Around I hope to work on today - if only to prepare SOME of the charms for the Square in a Square blocks.

Hurricane Sandy - am using DIFFERENT blocks - but don't have a current picture!  Log Cabins - make as many as possible (strips are pre-cut and I keep in bins! Just straight BORING sewing!)

And AFTER dinner out tonight - goal is to work on Hexies (no picture yet) in front of DVD or movie!

                  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW I'M DOING (more added as time goes on!!!!) .............................

                  Getting ready to head out.

Finished November Triangles long ago - after a bit of trying to discover WHERE I had put the fabrics I had wanted for the light/darks!  Have been working on Hurricane Sandy Log Cabins - Hoping to finish sometime tonight.  Same with sewing the Twister together (3-4 seams only).  Also - hoping to do the slice and dice for the LE Lilac project!  The slacks, Walking Foot sampler will have to wait until tomorrow!

More later!  (and will post pix later as well!)

                  ......................................................
                   AFTER THE MEETING...............

I came home - and worked on the Hurricane Sandy blocks - until I started having problems with the machine again!!!!

These are the Hurricane Sandy Log Cabin blocks - well, at least some of them (others are by the machine waiting for the next strip!)  I still have to add quite a few strips - last one being a dark Navy or black strip - to end up with 12.5 inch blocks (unfinished)  Total will be 20 blocks

This one is for Lynn and Nathan's Thanksgiving table - working on it.  Am working on something as well for Wendy and Vince (not shown - she checks my blog! LOL)  These are hexies (2.5 inch) in November's color Palette.

Quiltathon - the Last Day (sob!)

                   Am I crying?  Nyet!

It is somewhat frustrating though, to see that I am ALMOST done with ..... not ONE... but TWO!!!! beautiful quilts!  However - ALMOST is the keyword here!

Yes - Granny's Scrap quilt is one - and I love it!  But perhaps even more I love the one I'm giving to my daughter and her dh (daughter also quilts - like a dream!!!!!) - which, of course, is why I'm giving it to her!  And that's the  Apple Cider quilt!

Am I going to put the pictures in of the current quilt?  Umm..... probably not tonight!  Why?  because I have high hopes of finishing up the Apple Cider quilt tomorrow (or maybe even later tonight!)

What about reporting STASH????  Uhhhhhhh - it is SOOOOOoooo tempting to NOT report stash until I'm done with these two - which I should be by tomorrow evening at the latest (done as in FLIMSY done!) and that way I can report NEXT week on a whole week of WALKING FOOT marathon (interspersed by other things!)   Hmmmm - what to do - what to do!!?????!!!!

OK - pix TOMORROW (sorry - would have probably finished the AC quilt flimsy today - but was falling asleep at 2 PM - has something to do with waking up at 4 AM - not to quilt then - sound carries and all - but to play Treasure Madness, my other addiction!)  AND I'll report on the Stash for week number 40 tomorrow!

The Third Day - October Quiltathon

This is silly!  I've sewn for 6 - 8 hours before and NOT become exhausted.  Yesterday - 5 - 6 hours in and it was all I could do to drag my feet for a "quick" lie down!  (and sleep for 3 hours until my son called and woke me - TWICE!)

Of course, it probably doesn't help that my sinusitis is raging and storming around! And that I'm doing my level best to sneeze my head off! (we will NOT discuss how my cats are totally avoiding me with my VERY loud and explosive sneezing fits!)

Nevertheless.... I REALLY have a LOT to do in this quiltathon!  Not the least of which is to actually have STASH gone Gone GONE!!!! to report!  Besides it's always fun to participate in Judy L's quiltathon!  I get to see other people's work and both wish I were half as good as some of them - or want to start MORE new projects (WIPs) right away!  Not the least of which is the ones Judy is working on!

However - that being said - I will (as in I WILL) work on my current projects and I WILL complete some at least before tomorrow evening - no matter how late it is!

Being that as it may - what did I complete yesterday?  A LOT of the 4-blocks - and more to be pressed for the Apple Cider quilt (I did say that they kinda took over, didn't I?),

all the 9 patch plus sashing units (just needs sewing together now into strips), and now have ready - the posts - rather what I call the square in a square blocks (some are done, trimmed and already attached to the strips - CUTE!!!!), and a world of trimming and finishing.  Who knows - I may actually get this quilt either finished today - or ALMOST finished!  Yeehaw (oops! I didn't say that - at least not yet!)

                  More in a bit.............
                  ............................................................

Lunch break (turkey wrap with cream cheese.  Only a few little tiny yellow pear tomatoes to "decorate" the 12" Wrap!)

Decided to go pick up the mail at the post office (didn't know they could put so much junk mail and so many bills in one PO box!) then to the library to drop off the Advice and Consent video (only 4 days overdue) - and thought maybe it is time to start really focusing on my pre-election videos and DVDs on presidential and senatorial stuff (I have 8 so far) - will see what I can scrounge at the library as well next trip!  Also stopped by the other rental property to see what improvements have been made - but the door was locked, the saws were screaming, and the music was turned so high that there was NO WAY son or anyone else, ftm, could hear me!  Came home and ran into my missing neighbour (not missing, really - she had moved and I miss her!).  We discussed Quinoa as a "grain/not-grain" (I didn't realize at first what she was talking about until suddenly I realized she was pronouncing Quinoa as Keenah! which is probably the correct pronunciation.  Sounds really good and I think I will definitely look into it!  And I invited her to partake of the Swiss chard/greens that I've got out in the garden!  She in turn gave me a VERY delicious apple that grew wild in her yard!  Yum!

Now it's back to quilting - and I feel so much happier with my break!  First pressing time - to the tune of Dark something or other - a sci fi film - then it's back to Mansfield Park (I think chapter 32 or so!)

Fall must be almost right here - I can see yellow leaves on trees already, a touch of red on the green trees - but so far - mostly green!  And if I get done/tired early enough - I think I'll head outside and remove all the last of the beans - readying those 2 beds at least for tilling.  And start back on the potatoes again!  The dried out corn stalks can go in a bundle for fall decoration if I pull the leaves on what ears there are back a bit. and maybe I can get rid of some of the leaves, etc.  (Pix added later)

                  More later!........................

                  Quiltathon - the Second Day

This is the second day of the October Quiltathon that Judy L. is hostessing!  And she previewed the CUTEST block today - am so anxious to try it!

HOWEVER - that being said - I MUST MUST MUST see what I can do about finishing SOMETHINGS that are in the between this and that stages!

                  Plans for today -

                  1) Press EVERYTHING (I tend to wait until I have a LOT to press then do a massive "press-in"!)
                  2) October Triangles

                  3) Put the walking foot on - and GET BRAVE!!!!!  Start with the Pink baby blanket - and finish all the SITD (Stitch in the ditch) and X's on there (THOUGHT I was done with that!  Nope!) Put aside for when I do FMQ this weekend!
                  4) still with the walking foot - pin-baste, mark and stitch the green polka dotted baby quilt.
                  5) Stitch in the Ditch on the Threadhead quilt.
                  6) Put ALL finishes on the blog - AND on my Stash page so I can keep track!
                  7) Finish stitching all the Apple Cider 4 blocks (yup - I KNOW they are supposed to be LE - but I'm getting anxious - besides I have a lot of singles to start doing AGAIN!)
                  8) Granny's Scrap quilt - which I both love and am getting sick of! and haven't even finished yet!
                  9) Solve World peace in my spare 5 minutes!

Well, another cup of coffee - and off to iron everything in the universe that needs it! (wonder how my night owl upstairs neighbours who are NOT quiet at 3 AM will like being awakened this AM to the tune of Advice and Consent on the DVD or to Mansfield Park on audio book!!!!  Suspect I will find out!  After all - it IS 758 AM now!  Although I WAS tempted to play Reveille LOUDLY at 5 AM when I gave up and got up!)
                  ........................................
(short break here - 907 AM)
Had decided to return to Granny Squares and the Apple Cider 4-blocks (did those first - didn't I ever tell you I'm compulsive?????)

REALLY added to the pile I had to press out - but then - I feel soooooooo much further along!  (further-farther - hmmm.  Farther-distance! And I'm not traveling far!  Sor Further it is!)

I shouldn't really - since I'm STILL on the same step - BUT I did finish up all the last dabs of items I had set up to sew last night!  PLUS almost all the rest of everything!
