                UFO Challenge!

September UFO is done!  At least the flimsy part of it!!!!

                ....................................................................
And the NEW October Challenge is No. 6!  Which is a modified Child's choice for me!

This is a block that I started for a swap some years ago (when I first started quilting) - and it's a mess!  The swap never happened.

BUT I really, really did NOT like that block as it stood!  Now however I am modifying it and playing with it.  Hopefully it will be a lot more fun now!  Amongst other things, I am probably going to make this into a much smaller quilt.  Maybe.

First though I have to take out all the goofed up stitching!  And that is going to be a chore! (a TV time chore!)

Idea though is to put pix of things that _I_ love or did love as a kid in the box on alternate squares.   We'll see.  I suspect finding pix of things I love or did love in FABRICS is NOT going to be easy!

                July UFO

I already showed a picture of this on the design wall - however.....  I'm pleased - got a LOT done on this - which had an unbelievable amount of HSTs - and which had been sitting on my shelves for almost 7 years - because of the unbelievable amount of HSTs.

Between doing Leaders-Enders (to use Bonnie Hunter's term) and a new ruler that DOESN'T SLIDE (Thank you thank you thank you!!!!) - I am ALMOST (not quite) done with the HST's (the small ones - still have most of large ones to do)  AND I have foursies done already!

Plans are to continue working on this throughout August (but of course - I DO have my August project to work on :P ) and, who knows, I may actually finish it!  Wahoo!

                Sunday, September 25, 2011

Do NOT ask how I like my Janome!!!!

                Grrrr!

Did I say I LIKE my sewing machine? You know - the one that snarls at the drop of a hat (am using quality thread)that breaks almost as fast as I thread it? I KNOW there is a hook somewhere that is catching the thread that SHOULDN'T be - I can see it! That is - I can see the upper thread stretched across the top of the bobbin - just not what is holding it there! At this point I am ready to (1)scream, (2)cry, (3)quit sewing and never sew again - that is, if only I would quit dreaming of new things to sew!

What am I sewing? I'm trying to finish up the last 2 borders on my Carpenter star - in preparation to sending it off to Wendy to do her good stuff on it!

Me thinks I need to set up and get going the new-to-me Singer straight back and forth sewing machine. Nothing fancy - just good sewing!

Odds and Ends and a Carpenter Star to boot!

Ugh! I was going to post a picture of the project I'm currently working on (finishing up my Carpenter Star - only 3 years overdue!!!) but it would certainly help if I could find my camera! Definitely will be doing some picture posting this week - AFTER I find my camera - and AFTER I figure out HOW!!! Am excited.

The quilt wasn't really as far along as I had thought - but now I have to connect my rows together - tried some - but while I was "in the groove" yesterday - that sure isn't the case today! So - am working on the apartment - and doing laundry - which is really a good thing since I think there may be a ban on my showing up at work in just skin! At the least I know it would take a long time for my boss as well as CT to recover from the shock of it all!

Other stuff - Re-watched DaVinci code which I find interesting - but may decide to re-home the DVD - haven't decided. Not really my cup of tea!

Nathan is here today - and working on the second coat of paint in the bathroom - YAY!!!!

Made some Pasta Fagioli - VERY good - except I like mine spicy hot - and, of course, discovered at the last minute I'm out of hot peppers! I would say I will add those later - but the soup isn't going to last that long! I really hate to say how many cups I inhaled for lunch today!

Garden wise - still weedy - we had a really ominous looking thunderstorm - so no weeding - BUT - I harvested tomatoes (4), a few potatoes (um, a bit late - they were sprouting already!), and one of my eggplants - which are the long skinny kind! And I REALLY want some for supper - AND sooooooo..............

YAY - have reduced BP meds! Go Me! AND I lost 8.5 pounds since June!!! Yeehaw!

Wendy and I played work for 15/play for 45 yesterday and today - was GREAT! Mostly I focused on cleaning up my sewing room - which I did NOT finish - but it is better - a LOT better! YAY!

                July Ho-Hums!

TG June is over - that's one of my busy seasons - and this past one was no exception! Add to that my returning home from a several month (since mid-February) stay at son's home. And yes, the house is NOT finished - but in terms of gasoline, etc. - soooooooo much less expensive to drive to work!!!

for those who are somewhat observant (certainly NOT me - it would take me to mid-December to notice this!!!) I've added 2 buttons - one for Judy Lacquidera's Monochromatic Challenge and one for her stash busting! Both more than well-worth while! (And both of which I am WAYYYYYYYYYYY behind on - working on last January, here!!!)

Other news - I decided after all to put in a garden - have some veggies (plants all) in - and as soon as I figure out where I stashed my garden seed will get that in too. I figure I've got until mid-next week before some of the veggies are on the no-no list for this year! Wish me luck!

Re the remodel - it is gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS!!!! LOVE my kitchen - and the bath is painted to match!~ AND I have a DISHWASHER and a REAL STOVE with a REAL OVEN!!! Yeehaw! I'm in hog-heaven!

                Tuesday, February 01, 2011

                It's February!!!!! (Already!!!!)

Yeehaw - another snow day!!! LOVE that! However to be honest - I DID try to go into work this AM - all the way up to where I realized that while I could see the car ahead of me - the one ahead of THAT (not that far away) I could barely see the outline (yes, my eyes are bad - but not THAT bad!) and that the snow was coming down REALLY hard! Add to that roads which were slippery - and egads - NOTHING is worth braving that and taking my life in my hands! Particularly when the farther south I went - the worse it got! So I called my boss. Anyway - she relayed that they will be dismissing work early because of the weather - so I feel better about that!

Have been playing Flylady Bingo this AM - LOVE doing that - makes my daily chores go SO fast - and it's fun! 3 15-minute sessions of different chores (I draw up a list - assigning numbers - and someone calls out a number and that's my next chore) followed by a 15 minute break! Works for me!

I found out that Judy Laquidara has chosen Violet or purple for the next monochromatic color - for the month of Feb. While I have LOTS of violet - I'm not sure if I have any strings that color and I really would like to focus on strings. That being said - a particular quilt pattern I want to call Lilacs in bloom calls me - something I'm kind of creating along the way. More later on this!

She (Judy) also chose #10 for the next UFO quilt item - which for me is...My Underground Railroad - which is hilarious considering that I was contemplating doing a square in different ones of those LAST month as I worked on son's sampler - which BTW is NOT completed yet - but which I really hope will be further along this week! Hopefully even to the point where I can ship it off to Wendy - much less post pictures of it!

I may do some string blocks anyway - hmmm - last month was golds or yellow - so maybe golds and brown strings???? with either solids between the string blocks - OR set the strings up as a sort of medallion - with other things around...... hmmmm - thinking on this one! Esp since Wendy (Inky Threads) mentioned something about quilts still definitely being needed for Haiti.

                Good joke on me..............!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning I bleary-eyed got ready for work - did this on rote! Did NOT check my calendar. Was groused because a really cute shirt I bought over the weekend - on clearance, of course, and an extra large to allow me to wear it over another shirt - sort of like a jacket - it was entirely too tight! And this was just on the arms and across the back! Thank goodness I didn't try to button it! Even though it's on clearance I'm going to try to take it back - can't hurt.

Raced to work - and managed to get there about 20 minutes early (YAY me!) Rosa and Gloria (my best friends and adopted sis - as well as team leaders) were all smiles - and then said they hadn't expected me! Immediately my tummy tensed up - since I get VERY paranoid about statements like that! I asked why - it seems that Christina called Rosa and said I wouldn't be in today. By now I was REALLY tense - felt like I was gonna cry and all! LOL - it seems that today was a vacation day for me! And there I was - ALMOST ready to sign in (but I hadn't)! So I turned around and headed home! And now plan on doing all the good stuff I didn't get done this weekend - ie, cleaning, gardening, cooking, quilting!

OK _ time to wake up the brain cells (hopefully!) On the menu for today...........

Continue this week as needed.

                It's DAYTIME!!!!

Today I have to set priorities! Unfortunately not necessarily the priorities I want! I have 2 rooms to finish up cleaning upstairs (paint removal and all!), a basement I don't want to clean (think maybe Monday or Tuesday?), a garden that MUST be done (think maybe an hour a day?) and 3 baby quilts needing to be done yesterday - actually several weeks ago!

I DID get the friendship quilt sent off to Wendy - unfortunately it needs some adding to (this is why God invented tape measures!) - and I am now sending the "extra" friendship stars, extra fabric, the backing to Wendy. Wendy is to embroider the names on the quilt of the folks who sent the stars. And it was Wendy who discovered that my quilt was too narrow and too short! She has offered to add to my quilt for me - hence the extra stars, etc. going her way! And will do any extra stars as needed. When done - she will do the quilting overall. I suspect I will owe her my first born - except that she IS my first born! I am thinking this one is definitely a joint effort! Love ya, my daughter!

OK - priorities for this week........
                1. Finish upstairs 2 rooms
                2. post remaining fabrics, etc. to Wendy to Canadian addy
                3. Baby quilt #1 - rest of quilting, binding, trim and finish.
                4. Baby quilt #2 - borders, quilting, binding, trim and finish
                5. Baby quilt #3 - the whole magillah!
                6. House - actually this one fits in here with # 3 - 5 - it HAS to be cleaned. Same with.......
                7. Laundry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time put it AWAY!
                8. Garden - set up beds. Will post more as I get to this one!

                Grateful list -
                1. For my 2 kids - son who has been terrific and put up with a LOT from me - and who has worked his franny off getting this place ready for tenants, etc. - daughter who has provided encouragement, and is working on one of my quilts for me. BOTH of them are a source of inspiration, amusement, moral support, - and just about anything else that's positive for me! I love them dearly!

                Helen's do-list (my "take" on Cindy's do-list)

Hmmm - seems to me that I had joined Cindy in her March Madness some time ago. But then it is no longer March and I'm NOT going to comment on the Madness part - save that it appears that April frenzy is finally calming down! TG!

Sooooooo - thought I would pick up again on the March Madness (Cindy's theme) and for this last week - and possibly through May (May Meanderings????) I would continue it.

Idea is that this is sort of a scavenger hunt - and I need to post the pix of whatever it is I see (provided my cable for my camera appears within the next century!)

                1) Shop at home (credit/debit cards on vacation - YAY!)
                2) Eat healthy (I'm sure there is a fancier way to say this - however........) and BE healthy (exercise) (Sparkpeople.com for each)
                3) "Flylady" cleaning
                4) Quilt for 30 or garden for 30 or whatever - I can choose here - whether it is something I procrastinate on (I procrastinate quite well) or is a new challenge. Theoretically something different every day.
                5) Grateful 3
Cindy's list was for a month. I think I lasted 3 days on the month part. I'm working on a week for now - and then we'll see. Plus as per my dd suggestion I pared it down (from 8 - 9 items) to 5.

                Today 's goals.....................

                Soooooooooo sleeeepy.....................

am soooooooooo sleepy today. not as much as yesterday though. Well - to work, to work, to work!

Today is a vacation day for me (YAY!) Am waiting for the plumber (who unclogged my sink Monday - YAY!) to finish up a job upstairs. I was under the impression he would be here in the morning. Nope!

Problem is - I need to leave the house - get food for dinner, lunch, kitty food, my meds from Wally world, take the kitty to the groomers' and a couple of other things that I forgot already! And I KNOW that if I leave that the the plumber will choose THAT time to show up! Nor do I know the plumber's name and phone number (son contacted them).

In addition, I have the side porch floor to paint (I volunteered - son was determined to paint last night - was falling over he was so tired), clean house somewhat, papers to sort (am looking for specific paper - not finding it so far!), and SOMEWHERE in there SEW!

                Sigh! More later
