WHEW! Finally! It's Saturday again!!!! WAIWO 09-21-13

Big Blocks for Big Block Drive (Alycia's QOV Big Block Drive) - FIRST installment!
Needs only one more stripe on 3 of them and trimming for them to be done -
would then be 12 instead of 10 (either short term memory is shot! or I can't count!)
Aaack!  That would be 9 instead of the 12 I mentioned - and for sure I can't count!
(Personally I was a LOT happier when I thought I would have 12 ready!)

Stash Report for Week 37 - dumb machine!!!

Honestly!  I am so sick and tired of this machine having problems!  It's A GREAT machine - WHEN it works right!  The problems are that  (1) AFTER cleaning around the bobbin/shuttlecock, etc. - it will NOT work right for me - no matter how many times I take it apart (it has screws to undo and redo every time), (2) the directions show a piece on my machine that I DON'T have, never did have, nor was supposed to have!  So - uh - what gives with that?

At this point I am writing to the main company.  This should NOT be that hard!  Seriously!

Still - at this point, I will go back to what I said BEFORE this machine - I WANT A TREADLE SEWING MACHINE - year about 1900 or 1910!  Seriously!  Those things NEVER wear out!  True - the belt DOES go now and then - more a then than now - and mostly it's a matter of being stretched - which is easy to fix - and should be!  AND many if not most of the parts are still available!  Plus they are set up so the OWNER can fix them easily!  These modern primadonnas take specialists!  And then STILL don't work right, break at the drop of a hat!  Nope - give me a treadle ANY day! (Of course, I still want my modern primadonna too!)  Besides I miss being able to sew ANY time I want to - even when no electric is available like in the winter! (Of course, sewing is not my main priority then - WARM is!)

Design Wall for Week 36 - 09-09-13

This seems like a lot - and probably it is... however....

Re the Back to Square One - I am NOT caught up.  I AM working on it - do hope to get caught up this month - one step each week.

Also - re the Hurricane Sandy Quilt - it has been on my blog for EONS - and STILL isn't finished.  Maybe it's time is not now.  So - setting that one aside - and moving on.....

BOM Mystery
(I still have to take another picture - updated - forgot last week - oops!)
this week will show step 5 completed.  I did work on step 6 - but had to take it all apart again! :(  For some reason square in a square - although a very easy patch - is hard for me to do accurately!

Baby Quilt #1.  I think I may do this one in a straight grid with the walking foot.

Sampler blocks to be completed and sent

Big Bird - can have  other pieces added to him - sort of a crazy quilt that will probably drive ME crazy before it's done!

Reds used for Bowdacious Four Patch.  This is my leader-ender.  I am not sure whether I have enough 4 patches or not - Wendy and I have been doing swaps back and forth -= and she has done a humongous bunch of them!

My Sewing Room UPDATE!

Sorry about the sideways view!
Cabinet is made up of 2 smaller 3 drawer cabinets stacked one on top of the other
and is used for strips - 3.5, 2.5, 2.0,  1.5, 1.0.
Strips in each drawer (sized by width) are divided into light and dark.

Another 2 sideways views!  Sorry!  We will ignore the mending (to the left of the strip cabinet and right of the shelving!). Shelving is 6' tall, 30" deep, and each shelving unit is approximately 4 - 5 foot wide. Yardage is  subdivided by main color, refolded so it will stack uniformly - that is on the LEFT side of each shelf.  On the right is yardage that I use for sewing (IF and WHEN I get around to it!) and it is mostly just folded!  Plastic bins hold FQ of that color.  Repros share the shelf with the browns and beiges, with homespun, holiday, patriotic fabrics below that on the left and flannels on the right.  On the very top of the shelves I keep holiday ornaments, keepsake storage, trims - each in its own bins and labeled.

Here you can get a better idea of the blues shelf.  Below that are the orange and yellow fabrics and FQs, as well as the black and gray fabrics and FQs and yardage for sewing.  Bins for block units (3.5, 2.5, 2.0, 1.5 - light and dark sit on top of the  FQ bins.

Cutting table has my magazine holder which I use to hold patterns as well as non-hangable plastic templates.  The green thing lieing flat on the table is an old 3-drawer cabinet lid that I re-purposed with the addition of felt fabric and packing tape into a mini-design wall.  It works.

This closet is actually only 9 - 12 inches deep - so I use it for plastic template rulers (hangable), storage (above) and as a place to store my machine cart-a-long.

Even my door gets used a lot!  Here I hang my most used rulers as well as a listing of my UFOs, machine threading  instructions, and a copy of  my to-do list

My machine desk - complete with the strips I have GOT to turn into 4 patches this week and send on their way.  Flimsies sit in bins under the desk on the left (blond spot is my Widget kitty!)  In the black bag is my son and dil's wedding quilt which I need to do the final quilting and binding on - they celebrated their first anniversary last Saturday.

More UFOs (other ufos on bottom shelves of the big fabric shelves).  Also books.  Small drawers are for sewing tools - ie, measuring tapes, scissors and slicers, etc.  Videos were gifted to me by a friend who knew I liked to watch quilting movies.

My work basket - is supposed to have ONLY the things in it that actually are on the design wall for the week.  Supposedly!
Yup - Birthday month!  Time for a sewing room update - and more yet - to CLEAN the sewing room!

(that is clean it more than the usual run the dustmop and duster over everything!)

I belong to a Stashbusters group - and decided to do pix of my sewing room along with a report on my stash - birthday update!  First I decided to pick up a little in there - you know - 15 minutes of pick up...........

4.5 HOURS later I was able to take pictures!  MOST of it had been straight - but the parts that weren't more than made up for lost time!

And I STILL have a humongous box under my cutting table with fabric scraps in bags that are color coded - for the most part.  Scraps are to be sliced and diced into strips, blocks or used as strings or even crumbs.  What's left goes in one of the 3 Nestle Quik boxes sitting on my sewing table and goes to a lady who uses them as stuffing for doggie beds.

Stash Report for Week 36

This is disgusting!  Really!!!  I KNOW I did a lot of sewing this week.  Problem was that I frogged it even more!!!!  Aaargh!  And all on my Back to Square One quilt (directions not that hard - I seem to have a hard time making a square in a square however - no matter how easy the directions are!!!!)

Be that as it may, my machine decided it was time to take a vacation - and started doing the knot/snarl at me thing Saturday evening.  Yesterday it wasn't in a better temper.  Neither was I!  I kept thinking of open windows and how satisfactory it would be to teach the machine how to fly!  And, then, of course, I thought of how NOT mature that whole attitude was - and, of course, there won't be any flying lessons here!

Still and all - it WAS my birthday yesterday - and so I did not only a stash report for the past year on stashbusters, but decided to take pictures of my sewing room (on another post).  More on that one there.

No projects finished.  Further along - yes.  Done?  Nyet!

Oops! That was a LONG weekend - clear through to Wednesday!!!!

Wow!  That WAS a long weekend - lasted almost all week too!  LOL
Sorry about that!  Forgot to post yesterday!

Tonight Rosh Hashanah begins!  This year I didn't get tickets to the service - mostly because I procrastinated - which of course does NOT exclude me from having my own service here at home.  What I'm going to have???  Hmmm - good question that!  Chicken for sure on one of 3 meals - maybe 2.  Not sure of the 3rd - might make vegetarian lasagna for that.  Veggies I have.  dessert?  Hmm - I need to make that and may have to get an extra dozen eggs - not sure.  Challah - 4 loaves (2 for Rosh Hashannah and 2 for Shabbat) - may make different kinds - not sure yet.  3rd meals?  Hmmm - maybe straight vegetarian or maybe tuna or salmon salad and veggies, sweet cakes of some sort and fruit.  Breakfast? - umm - mostly granola (homemade) and milk, fruit

As a result - what I get done for today - probably will be it - at least until Sunday, because Rosh Hashanah is 2 days (Thurs and Fri) with Saturday being Shabbat.

Re what I did - mostly worked on the Back to Square One sampler (STILL not done - had to take some stuff apart! oh thrill!)

Yesterday I didn't do a lot of much - mostly gave my OCD mind a real thrill by working on all the labels, et all for the blog.  This doesn't sound like much - but went clear back to 2006 - and cleaned up a bunch of old labels - changing them all around, adding some for convenience, and subtracting hopefully more than I added.  But like my quilting - I had a LOT to undo - repeatedly!   Aaargh!  However, that little chore is DONE!

I DID get some things done though....  I harvested a lot of stuff out of the garden.  And yes, unfortunately the sweet corn is DONE!  Mostly because a raccoon family crashed the place and had a party - wrecking what they didn't eat - and just sampling a bite of this sweet corn, and 2 bites of that!  Ugh!

Beans were been picked, tomatoes harvested, and I checked the tomatillos - quite a few were ready (pods split when they are - but some of those pods had been knocked off the vine - so split - but very small tomatillos!)  They should go nicely into salsa however.

I need to make notes on my garden page about what I want for next year.  FTM I need to outline what I want, need, put up etc. on my food preservation page too - but that I may or may not get around to today.

Son has my car again so I can't teach (can't drive there) which is ok for the moment since it gives me a chance to catch up a bit - however my foot (plantar fascitis - with 2 bone spurs) is acting nasty again and HURTS!!!!

Yesterday - had oatmeal with blueberries for breakfast, a chicken burger with homegrown Brandywine tomatoes, and a big old slice of onion and chopped mole peppers and a slice of cheddar - for lunch, and for dinner I had a vegetable plate (the two too small ears of sweet corn that Nathan and Lynn didn't want), scalloped tomatoes (from the garden - quite good, in fact!), boiled potatoes fresh from the garden with peppers, green beans (leftover) also from the garden with onions, and scrambled eggs with mole peppers. Oh my was that good!!!!

Design Wall for Week 35

Well, not counting high hopes and all - I had THOUGHT I would have a lot more accomplished this last week - and then for today I had hoped to get quite a bit done!!

Yup - that's what I HOPED alright!  Now we can talk reality here!

Oh yeah - and I will post up-to-date pix on all those items I have asterisked.

Anyway - on my design wall/board/computer - whatever - for this week are..........

I WILL get this quilted this week - honest!!!  (hoping I get it done this weekend!)
Hurricane Sandy

Baby Blanket #1 -
(* because I finally designed the quilting pattern!)
I keep re-designing how I want to quilt this.  Need to remember - done is done!

Back to Square One - hopefully I will be caught up this weekend!
This is a BOM Mystery quilt from Judy Laquidara *

Hexies - I want to get these attached together - and more done

That eons old sample swap!  DEFINITELY finish - hopefully this weekend!

4 patch for SH quilts - these are last mos' blocksl  Have fabric picked out for Sept. already - hopefully will be done on Monday, dropped off on Tues and Aug swap to me picked up

Wendy's 4 patch - this is July - I just sent first 50 of August - can't find the picture!  Hopefully to be completed on Tuesday *

Fruit basket swap - just add a FQ and mail - think Monday or Tues

Add to this 2 more swaps - Fall pumpkin swap - hopefully done on Wednesday
Remaining swap - Christmas blocks - think Santa, stockings, tree - want to have this done by next thurs at the latest!
IF all goes well - then on Fri - either I can proceed on to next week's design wall - or can up a storm!

Get 'er Done list - aka the FAB 4 list!!!

This is part of an eons old swap - however this one was DONE and sent to its owner!
The few remaining ones I've not recieved word one from owners
If unclaimed I'm sending to a charity block place

Actually I keep these posted over on the left side of my blog - HOWEVER it probably is a good idea to refresh my mind about them every so often - so I am re-printing here!

1. Hexie flowers - Work for space of ONE audio disc *
2. Baby Quilt #1 completed *
3. Back to Square One caught up
4. Hurricane Sandy Quilt - machine tie *
5. Summer Breeze quilted (tie - machine)
6. the eons old samplers *

Sunday AND Monday morning!!! And it's a LONG weekend - YEEHAW!!!!

Amelia Park - I still like this picture - A LOT!
(Eventually I will take other pictures of sites here locally and post those too!)

I'm cheering - because I go back to teaching this week - maybe!

Provided, of course, that my son returns my car!  Still and all, I'm not really complaining, mind you - son and daughter in law have done a lot - and I know that son is being slammed with work! and that all his plans were changed!  Originally he had hoped to be over here Friday - a sort-of almost day off for him (he was on call).  However, he got phone calls like crazy - which only stands to reason since he works with computers and more folks are off on long weekends and therefore problems are more likely to occur!  I know he had planned SOMEWHERE on the weekend to work on his car, but I'm betting that didn't happen either!  Hopefully he didn't have anymore 24 hour "days" - which has happened all too often in the past!

(Monday's note) BTW - Treasure Madness is entirely too addictive!  I've been OFF of it for maybe 6 months.  Tried going on the other day - I'm hooked all over again!

TODAY.............
My kitty - Button, Button, Where's My Button (aka Button for short!)

Week 34 - Yarn Report

Well - this week I have excuses.

Of course, I STILL don't do as much as Judy does (who ALSO gets yarn time in even with all the other stuff she does!!!!)  But for me - well..... (Whine coming on!)

This week I gardened, read, gardened, napped, planned, put up food, and for the most part (gasp!) procrastinated!  I STILL don't have the needles the size I need - and am STILL positively drooling over the Dreamspan patterns - as well as a whole bunch of other patterns (including Owlies - who knew!!!!!)  At any rate - it didn't happen!  Who knows - maybe this next week will be different and I will knit up a storm? (gotta be easier than NOT adding stitches when I'm not supposed to be.....)

Yippee! It's FRIDAY!!!! WAIWO 08-30-13B

Weeding outside is done - and tomato oils washed off my arms - TG!  That stuff ITCHES - almost worse than the mosquitoes!  Still and all - it is cool here - cloudy - but cool!

Met one of the moms of the kids today - showed off my garden - later after she left - I looked around at all the empty spaces (thank you, birds!) and thought OH my!  Pitiful!  Still and all - am glad I have what I do!  Her garden isn't doing really well either - their tomatoes are just not ripening - and yes, everything is sooooooo slow growing as to come almost to a standstill!  I thought it was just me and my ineptness!  I've been really glad to have tomatoes - although have got now almost a canning lot again which would be fine if I had lids!  My beans are also growing - and blooming - and that is even for the fall planted beans.  Hers aren't.  I offered to give her some tomatoes - but they're on the way to visit relatives.  So maybe I'm not so bad a gardener after all - provided I don't count the birds!

LOL - Nathan STILL forgot to bring over the eggs he got for me - so I think I'm on my own re eggs and all - at least until next week!

Re housework - can we say this is NOT my favorite thing?  And if so, then what gave you the clue???  Could it be (gasp) that I have carried the SAME assignment in one form or another for the last 2 - 3 weeks (or months - whichever!)  Regardless - at least the living room is DEFINITELY on the schedule for today!  My kitchen is pretty well decluttered - but I want to get it done the rest of the way (yard sale coming up!) - and videos and dvds are part of the living room scene.  Besides if I do a marathon of movies (while quilting!) I want to watch movies I haven't seen before or at least recently - so I can keep those separated out - and then give a keep or dump after I watch them.  Dining room - as always - may be on a survival mode.

MOSTLY today I want to get Back to Square One completely caught up!  I will feel soooooo much better if I do!  And even better yet if I get the Hurricane Sandy thingy done and bound and OUT OF THE WAY!!!! Re the 4 patch - that really isn't on the GOTTA DO IT list until next week when a lot of swaps are on that same list!

Dehydrating foods is a definite MUST for today - either that or I will start to lose veggies and I don't want that!

Thursday's WAIWO - 08-29-13

9 patches and snowballs
Block I did for charity swap
August is ALMOST over!!!!

The kids in the apartment upstairs came back yesterday for a brief time (long enough to drop stuff off and then mosey off to visit and party with friends elsewhere!)

Just came in from weeding/thinning/harvesting/planning my garden (planning is for NEXT year! - and to build CAGES this winter!)  LOTS of tomatoes - my little chat with the Brandywine tomatoes seems to have borne fruit - literally!  LOTS of Brandywine tomatoes!

And, of course, the tomatilloes which have been cute and perky all year long - have decided to get in on the act - and so guess what is going on tomorrow - checking and harvesting some of the tomatillos (only ones where the husk has split however.  However I found I can store these little thingies in their husks in the refrig for up to a week - I just want to store them for a couple of days!  All this mostly because I bet that if I found 3 fruits that are ready - that there are a bunch more that I haven't checked that are ready as well.  And my hands are FULL today already!

Didn't get to eat at son's last night - it seems he allowed himself to become seriously dehydrated - and while he was now hydrating himself (water) - he still felt lousy!  Have BTDT - and you can have some SERIOUS problems result.  At this point I suspect he will probably need to carry a thermos of water with him wherever he is - because if he's like me - he will now dehydrate - and do so VERY VERY quickly - and salt is NOT an option!  Seriously!  If I start feeling REALLY thirsty, it is seconds before I feel desperate for water, and only 2-3 minutes before I start tossing my cookies with hospital time following shortly thereafter.  Hopefully he won't be that bad.

TODAY.............
