Stash Report for this past week - Week 22 - 05-31-15

I could come up with some fabulous excuse - but honestly, I can't thank of any rational-lies - uh, rationalization that would be appropriate!  The reality is - I just didn't work on anything.

Well - almost!  That isn't totally true - I did add to the crazy quilt vest I'm working on and I have added more to the growing pile of square in a square thingies I'm working on (I need 120 - and have 80-90 so far, depending on how you count and how much you lie!)

But finishing....?  Nope - didn't happen!

And that has GOT to change!  For one thing (the BIGGEST thing, I'm thinking) - I am now #4 on the queen's list!  And I don't wannabe!  But I'm there!  Time to get going!

Goals for today - 05-31-15R Sunday, and Accomplishments and Future Goals!

Urgh!  Trying to write with this computer is for the birds - and birds are too nice for me to pick on (excepting those that like to invade and eat out of my garden!)  It truly has a baaaaaaad bad case of sticky fingers!  And I hope it gets over it - SOON!

It's still the weekend today - and I'm on critter patrol - feeding, medicating, walking and watering any and all the critters!  Evan is visiting Meemaw and I know he is thoroughly enjoying himself (I'm backup this weekend if Sherri has to make a fast trip to the store or back to work for a short bit!)

Weather - it must have rained a bit last night - which figures since I watered my garden yesterday!  And it looks like rain again today.  Considering how dry and powdery (like fine talcum powder) the soil has been - it has been STRONGLY needed (soil doesn't really crack like in most places - probably because there is entirely too much sand - sort of like trying to raise a garden at the beach!)

I can't believe May is over already!  Seems like yesterday  I was complaining about how fast everything is going and that it was the beginning of May when it felt like it should have been March AT THE LATEST! (Personally, I'm still working on August - 3 years ago!)

Accomplished this past month - ummm - not a lot - hence my return to outlining what I theoretically HOPE to get done!

Housewise..... and moving right along.....

Garden ..... I broke down and hired a young man to re-work my gardens.  Son was so in favor of this that he donated money as well!  I would have felt happier about hiring this young person if I had known that he was actually saving the money or using it for his expenses.  Unfortunately there were indications that this didn't happen - such as when he started off each day asking for money ahead so that he could buy some lunch - "just $10 or so" (I ate PBJ meanwhile!) despite being told (repeatedly) that he was to provide his own lunch.  Third day in he hesitantly brought up that I had deducted the $ amount provided earlier from his overall day's earnings (he was paid by the day) - at which point I looked surprised and reminded him that he was told he was to provide his own lunch - and he himself said as much as well.  He was here a week - then neither my son nor I needed (nor could afford) to have him for the following week - but he is supposed to be back this coming week to mow.  I hope he shows up.  He's a good kid - just very young.

Anyway - garden is IN - finally!  and I have a humongous pile of stuff for composting - probably enough to supply the neighbors, myself and all friends as well.

Quilting -wise - well - I'm #4 on the queen's list and may have moved up already.  Should I say more?

Study-wise - some studies added, some changed around, some being reviewed, some re-done (as in - where WAS I when I studied botany?  My brain sure wasn't engaged in it!  Am re-doing all experiments!)

Studies added include:Garden, Homestead, Food preservation, Learning to learn (learning tips), Finances, Music (yes, I have a piano), Art - as well as all the other stuff.

The Earth subject - I'm still Pre-Cambrian - which would be helped a LOT if I didn't keep finding these fascinating books (texts) on Pre-Cambrian period and the development of the planet Earth!  Of course, I'm finding LOTS of other books as well......

And, yes, I have re-designed the WAY I am approaching these subjects.  Learning calendar is definitely 6 days a week now.  Daily subjects include: Russian, Exercise, Music (practice), Math, Food preservation (trying for one food a day).

Three days a week (Sun, Mon, Tues) I also work on Religion, Earth, Creative Writing, Handwriting.

The other 3 days a week (Wed, Thurs, Fri) I work on Botany, Garden studies, Learning Tips, finances.

Very lopsided, I know - BUT I seem to be more motivated at the beginning of the week - so I can handle more.  By the end of the week, I am more than ready for a change of pace, and a lighter load. (Well.... maybe not at the VERY BEGINNING of the week!)

Goals for WE 05-30-15 and WB 05-31-15

Trying again - because - I'm drifting - blast it!

Actually - have been studying - some (not enough), was babysitting quite a bit with the most beautiful baby in the world!, have been ignoring my cleaning - and my quilting as much as possible (yes, I AM in the queen's court - somewhere!)

Mostly I have decided this weekend - I am going to clean this place up (NOT done yet!), plant the garden (which has been completely re-designed - don't ask!) - and which is DONE!, sort the papers out (yeah - right!), pay the bills (MOSTLY done - and I'm broke again!), babysit (done this morning!), dehydrate stuff - hopefully, study, quilt - and in my spare 2.5 seconds that I have designated for sleep - achieve world peace!

Uh huh!

Sooooooooooooo - for THIS weekend and NEXT week - goals are......

    Stash Report - Week 11

Part of one of the first swaps I was ever in and
where I swapped with friends from a Big Family group.
Year? 2000  Think it's time for me to put it together?

    2015
    03-15-15 - Week 11
STILL  need to add the binding to the Log Cabin quilt, It's cut and ready to go.  Now to figure out what to use to support this big HEAVY quilt while I put on the binding!  As for the pattern for Spring's in the Morn (aka Spring is bustin' out all over!) I STILL have NO idea what the original thought was - BUT have decided to go with 9 patches and some blocks friends of quite a few years ago had sent.  May, as a result, go with the alternate name, since that fits better!  Saving Spring's in the Morn for something - probably applique.....

Have sewn quite a bit - just not enough!

    Design Wall for Week 10 - 03-09-15

Log Cabin - it's back home and all I need to do is to bind it!  It's GORGEOUS!
Wendy custom quilted it - complete with baskets of flowers on the white or light parts
and feathers on the blue!  Goal is to complete binding on this quilt this week!

Passover Table Runner - this week I'm focusing on taking out the blue or black little flowers
and replacing them probably with gray!

Crazy Quilt - one of 2 March UFO projects! (This is only a portion)
While working on the other March UFO I'm using this as a Leader-Ender project.
It probably will NOT be finished in March - but it sure would be nice for it to
    become a flimsy!

Fabric frolic - also called Square in a square.
I worked on this last Sunday and Monday, but in reality this was a February UFO challenge!
The squares in this come from a group of friends in a group I used to belong to years ago.

Spring's in the Morn - or actually it should be called Springin' Out All Over
which was the original name!  I don't recall the exact pattern - but know I had used a double 9 patch square
to alternate in it.  Since I don't remember the rest of the UFO pattern (self created -
this was maybe 12 years ago!), I decided to add in some of the blocks from a
Springtime swap from the Quiltin' Sisters group.  My goal is to turn this into a flimsy this month!

    Stash report for Week 10 - 03-08-15

    2015
    03-08-15 - Week 10
So close - yet so far!  STILL  need to add the binding to the Log Cabin quilt, Still need to remove the horrid purple flowers from the Passover table runner (WHAT was I thinking of????), need to STOP making Fabric Frolic blocks (February UFO), need to figure out WHAT was the pattern I had in mind for the Spring's in the Morn quilt I designed and started work on?

Design Wall for Week 9, 03-02-15

This week I'm working on several items - but can't show you all the pictures of the items YET - mostly because 2 of the items are barely started!!!  The third - ummmm - I may take out some of the quilting (flowers) - maybe or maybe not!  It all depends!

I belong to a group - Stashbusters - and have joined two challenges (actually more than 2!)  The first is a UFO challenge.  All the members of that challenge do their level best to NOT become queen of the UFOs - but as members complete a UFO, their name rotates to the bottom of the list and the other members move slowly - or even not so slowly - towards the top or the Queen position!

At the same time there is another UFO challenge - wherein we each list all our UFOs and assign them numbers according to their position on the list.  Each month two numbers are announced and we do our level best to finish the UFOs on that list corresponding to the numbers called.  This month - March - the numbers are 7 and 17.  for me, that means Crazy Quilt (#07) and Spring's at the Morn (#17) - both of which are BARELY started!  Significant progress this month on those would mean flimsies, at least!  And, of course, at this point I don't even have pictures of the projects - #07 would mean a picture of my machine with one of the many scrap boxes right next to it - and scraps dribbling over the top and on to the floor!  #17 would mean the fabrics, the few cut out pieces (not sewn together as of yet - but the fabric is cut into and that makes it a UFO!  Besides I like the name!)

By next week there should be something more to see!

    QUILT

There are 2 other table runners I am  hopeful of quilting this week as well
    PIECE
Both the Crazy Quilt as well as Spring's at the Morn fall under this category.
    Just no pictures yet!

Monday - all day of it! Thoughts and bits and pieces! 03-02-15

The last couple of days, I've been working on my Crazy Quilt.  while I can't say it is all handstitched, I CAN say that the pieces are machine sewn together and that they will have hand embroidered work to finish them.  I can also say that this definitely won't be the only Crazy quilt I will be doing - if only because I have a bunch of scraps that I've been saving of a variety of fabrics (velvets, satins, velveteens, brocades and so on) that will be in the other one - the one I am hopeful of putting family pictures in (including those of folk whose names I have NO idea about!..  THAT one will also have laces, grosgrain ribbon, and so on along with all the decorated stitches as well.

THIS one - the one I'm working on now I am seriously debating whether or not it will become a Springtime vest, or jacket, or not.  It would definitely be a fun thing to do and I may decide that this is the way I will go.  I definitely like the fun blocks I'm working on now!  First step, though is to piece all the fabrics together I want to include in this.  THEN if I decide to go the jacket route (appeals to me the more I think of it!), the next step would be to cut it and to cut out a proper lining for it.  Then to make both the lining and the jacket, then attach the two together.

However, I truly do want to think a bit on this - because the crazy quilt fabric itself will be really stretchy and will need a foundation to keep it from stretching all over the place.  If I use the lining also as a foundation, then that would be attached to the crazy quilt fabric BEFORE the outer garment is sewn together - which can be done - BUT doesn't truly feel like a lining to me, even though there are lots of jackets that are put together just that way.

OR I can just use the all over fabric as the foundation, with the crazy quilt pieces sewn to it and continue onward with the lining done separately then attached after all is done.

Another thought too - my machine has all kinds of fancy stitches to it - and although I've owned it for almost 2 years now, I have yet to do anything other than straight stitching.  This might be a truly good project to learn all about the fancy stitches, particularly if I want to use them to "join" the fabric pieces together in the quilt.
    .......................
Other thoughts/ideas/projects - well - back to that one!  I swear that I have a super messy gene!  I had my sewing room pretty well picked up - or so I thought!  I decided to work on my crazy quilt - which meant I had to pull out one of my scrap boxes.  Admittedly I had my ironing board out for easy access - and hadn't put away either the Passover table runner I've been working on, nor the "February UFO Projects" I was SUPPOSED to work on.  So - today I walked in there - and - OMG!  I have a teensy little pathway to use to get to my machine and chair - and had only a 3 square foot of space for that chair - most of which was already taken up by my Widget cat who keeps me company while I sew so that I don't get lost (which today, anyway, was a distinct possibility!).

So - what did I do?  Did I clean the place up?  NO!  I sat myself down, and sewed crazy quilt seams together, picked out fabric from one of the scrap boxes - which, needless to say, has to be put away again, and which has dribbled itself over the edges of the box and on to the floor, cutting down the 3 square foot of space even more!

Oh well - tomorrow's Tuesday - and I can definitely start off with a 20-30 minute pupa (pick up put away, for those who don't know!) then (not that Tuesday has anything to do with it!  It's just that occurs after Monday!)
    .....................................
I got to babysit Evan again today - actually - unless it's some vacation or other or Lynn is sick - I get to babysit Evan every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and frequently on Thursday as well!
Today he was a bit grumpy - mostly because his teeth are driving him batty and he isn't getting to sleep (he fights sleep like crazy anyway and I swear must pry his eyelids open with toothpicks - he truly hates to sleep!)

LOL - I was singing nursery rhymes to him while cuddling him in my arms and patting to time - and suddenly he snuggled down and cuddled up and just went to sleep!  first time he's done that in a LONG time!  Reminds me of putting my son (Evan's dad) to sleep at about the same age.  I would put Nathan against my chest and pat his back in time with my heart beat - would put him to sleep every time!  But I swore that child would be 95 years old and I would STILL be patting his back in time to my heartbeat to get him to sleep!  Seems to run in families!  LOLOL

Still Evan is an awfully good little guy - just like his dad was and like his aunt Wendy (my daughter) was!  I'm so lucky!
    ..............................................
Re my study schedule - all I have to say is ..... Oh My!  and then tomorrow I will pick up and work on it!  Trouble is - that seems to have been what I have been doing for a while - or at least somewhat. Yes there ARE books I am reading in various subjects - not what is assigned yet - but what has been read.  And there ARE videos I'm watching (ie, How the Earth Was Made) - but I truly do need to work on various assignments (I assign them).  Recently it seems my studies have been all hit or miss - with more miss than hit!  That needs to change!  I do like the side bar though!
    ..............................................
That's enough for now!  Only other thing to discuss at present is the snow - the deep snow!  And I refuse to do that.  Ol' Man Winter does NOT need to be encouraged!  Enough already!

Stash Report for Week 9 - WB 03-01-15

This week I've been working mostly on Quilting my Passover Quilt.  The part for the walking foot is done!  However the part for the hopping foot (FMQ foot) is definitely not done.  Not that far off - and it COULD have been done - but it wasn't!  Honestly, my FMQ on this has been one of the funniest things, with angle this and angle that and wierdly shaped the other. I'm not done yet - and sure do hope I improve!  Although the biggest improvement may happen if and when I take a chill pill - if I can ever get one prescribed!  I have this funny thing - as I get tense, I start pressing down HARD on the fabric - which of course makes the fabric jerk and twitch instead of glide over the machine surface!  And no, I don't go too fast!  In fact, in a race between myself and a snail - the snail would win - hands down, every time!  Still and all, I am patting myself on the back for one thing - I am trying it - and I AM determined! (OK - that's TWO things!  I still can't count!)

As for pictures - well, it isn't at that point yet - but hopefully I will get one up sometime this week!  the picture at the top was done with a walking foot - which still obviously needs a lot of that P word (Practice!)

    A Change of Pace

I'm hoping to do away with all the listing of my To Do items on my blog - BUT I do need to have the list visible so I don't totally ignore everything.  So, I'm trying something a little different.  I found a side bar that allows for text - and hopefully that will work and that I can change it daily.  Hopefully.  which will leave THIS part for any commentary (or not) on what is going on - or on life in general.  At least that's the game plan.  Now to see if it works!

Mind you, I do babysit.  Although I only babysit for 3-4 hours a day, I seem to have problems "shifting gears"! which is something I truly do want to get past!

    Design Wall for Week 8 - 02-23-15

    COMPLETED!!!
The Mini Twister- this will go to a friend Peggy.

BINDING NEEDED! (probably will have to wait a tad - maybe not!)

Log Cabin quilt is back home!
Wendy did a BEAUTIFUL job quilting it -
not sure you can see all the feathers or the baskets of flowers and so on with this picture!
but they're there - and boy are they gorgeous!
Now to put the Binding on - and - ta da - it will be DONE!
    TO BE QUILTED THIS WEEK

My Passover Table Runner - also my first experience FMQ.
The Walking Foot part was fine!  But OMG the FMQ!
Going to work on the vine - and may remove at least part of that blasted flower
and re do it in a different thread!

    Buckeye Beauty -
will be straight Walking Foot - at least until the borders!

    LEADER ENDER
Am going to be adding on the corners LE style -
at least until I get done with other projects!
I would like to get this to the flimsy point.
    Don't have enough black though.
    PIECING
    Wendy's Stars
This will become the Medallion for a QOV - as soon as I add the borders, et al.
Hoping to bring this to a flimsy status this month

Odds and ends from a VERY OLD Swap that I totally flubbed on!
Want to finish up the last of these - today I think.  And because the fabrics got separated from the envelopes and the directions when I moved, the blocks that I do not specifically recognize I will post pix on both to that email list as well as to the individuals.  Some were already sent to the individuals in that swap - including one block that I inadvertently left the embroidered antennae OFF of the butterfly.  Those folks who do not reply after a month or who indicate this will have their block added to a quilt for a charity.

This is one of the blocks

I have to re-sew part of this - but this is another block.
Unfortunately, it apparently doesn't belong to the Louise I thought it did!

    HAND PIECING
Hand Piecing is on hold until after all the Bindings are done, done, DONE!

    Stash reports

    2015

Strictly speaking this is still my stash report - mostly because I have NO idea what I want to do for crochet or knitting or.... well, whatever!  Regardless I am hoping this is the year that (1) I get all those gazillion scraps categorized - light/dark and to heck with the mediums!  Medium depends so much on whatever else I am using!  (2) I actually am brave enough to not only use my walking foot, but also to do some FMQ - like a LOT of it!  Heck!  With over 85 quilt projects (2 table runners = 1 project because the TR are SMALL!), I've GOT to get some quilting done!  And, goodness knows, (3) there are soooooooooo many quilts I want to do!

However - considering that it is 02/22/15 and I am just starting up again - that is where I will start my stash report!  Including with the project I just finished this past week!

Oh - and I will be counting ONLY completed quilts - flimsy, quilting and binding - the whole thing!

    Best laid plans for today!

Ugh!  As much as I dislike this - I NEED to do a To Do list - probably daily!  At least for now!

Today is Sunday and I don't know whether or not Wendy will contact me and feel up to quilting or not (she has chronic fatigue syndrome BADLY!)  If she can, then I will be quilting and chatting with her.  Otherwise - here is my game plan...........  and I KNOW I'm seriously behind (YET, Still, AGAIN!)

    EXERCISE
Yoga - go over Week 5 - AGAIN!  This is what happens when a person does NOT exercise for 2 weeks!  Well.... having to go OVER AGAIN a week's lesson plus, more importantly, not being able to move!!!!  Anyway - Yoga - Week 5 AGAIN!  Today - the 3rd routine (Preliminary leg pull, chest expansion, abdominal lifts - which I HATE!, eye exercises, shoulder stand and alternate nostril breathing while sitting in a half lotus position.  Oh joy!  But then - I will be able to MOVE and I will feel more energetic.  It's just the getting there and the unjoyful abdominal lifts that I dislike!

Strength exercises - today is core exercises - and WHY did I put all the ones I hate on the SAME day as abdominals in yoga?  Ugh!

Cardio for today - ummm - I looked around here, so my cardio for today will be to put on a bouncy type dance record - and clean my bunions off for 30 minutes (includes, dust mopping, floor scrubbing, wiping down kitchen cabinets, cleaning OUT kitchen cabinets - that is, all the stuff I was SUPPOSED to do this week - and didn't!)

    HOUSE
It is really Zone 3 that begins today.  I'm pretending that hasn't happened yet!  I'm still working on Zone 2!  Uh, that is, I'm BEGINNING to work on Zone 2 - dusting down ceiling and walls, wiping off fingerprints (mine), cleaning the refrigerator, stove, Going through my cabinets - one at a time and this part I will NOT get done with today (what doesn't get done today gets worked on either once a week or else on the NEXT Zone 2 week- haven't decided yet!) and - oh yeah - the floor!  The floor abused by overflowing dishwashers and sinks!

I'm past the worst (hopefully!) of the sinusitis and no longer have the major sleepies wherein I become a human zombie (quite literally - I can NOT keep my eyelids open!) so now it is time to stir up all the dust I'm allergic to and clean the cabinets so I can get clogged up again!

Also - I want to finish up (strongly begin) the WHB or weekly home blessing - which is a bit more - but not much more - than a kiss and a promise towards dusting and dustmopping the rest of the place to keep it from reaching a screeching crescendo!

Should there be time today - or this coming week - I want to hang up some kitchen curtains (don't ask!  Sore point between myself and my son!  I LIKE curtains!  CLOSELY woven curtains! which hopefully my cats will find B o r i n g!

    GARDEN PREP
With 3 foot and more of snow outside - and it would be more - but it just packs down between storms! - this seems ridiculous!  But seriously - it SHOULD get warm somewhere between now and the end of May.  Hopefully!  If not - I'm moving south and letting the glaciers have their way in my back yard!

Anyway - I was SUPPOSED to do this last month - but then things wouldn't be interesting, would they!

ONIONS!  It's time to plant onion seed - inside! (could have been planted anytime since last November!)  Hopefully I'll remember to label the dratted containers!  And hopefully I will find a way to keep my beloved kitties OUT of the planted in dirt!  I do NOT want to find any surprises waiting for me to grub around in the dirt!

    PAPERWORK
Oy vey!  Do I have paperwork coming out my ears!

First off - to gather it all together!  THEN sort the stuff!  THEN to make appointments with myself for the days to work on it!  However for that to happen - SORT the stuff FIRST!

    EDUCATION (tomorrow)

    QUILT (tonight)
Tonight I want to finish up the last of Peggy's table mat.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh - Wendy called - and so now - on to quilting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
