Since I was here last...........
Whew! FINALLY!!! I'm back on blog! Although Pix will follow later!
I had computer problems, had to go back and do the whole "insert disc A" thing and so on. I did get most (I think ALL - just not sure) of my previous programs back but had and UNBELIEVABLE horrible time trying to get back on to MY blog! I could get the published page just fine - just couldn't get to the blogger dashboard! Ugh! And ended with a whole second blog address which I did NOT want!
Sigh!
Worst problem - after all that I have a lot of the same S.................................L................................O..........................................W..............................!!!! problems I did before - and have already picked up viruses (virii?) which although deleted may still somehow be affecting my computer! Ugh!
Dd Wendy and Vince came down from Canada and spent several days here with me! Was great! Thoroughly enjoyed their visit!
They also brought my new to me - Treadle sewing machine! This machine is from 1907 - and has ALL the parts, ALL the directions. Yes - the cabinet itself probably needs refinishing and the machine needs cleaning and obviously has been used a lot at some time or other - you can see where the spool spun around and around. It also needs a new belt! But - oh it is a beauty! And I KNOW Bonnie H. would love to have THIS machine - but it is MINE! All MINE!
AND - they brought....... the quilt Wendy has been working on! Just gorgeous! And yes - I DO have to work on the binding - but OH MY! She did all this gorgeous quilting on it! CUSTOM quilting! Baskets of flowers and feathers - just lovely! Absolutely lovely!
Last time I mentioned that I have a NEW GRANDSON!!!! who is absolutely adorable! I've taken my camera over there lots of times for pix. Starting next week I take my camera over there and have someone take pix! Somehow I seem to have problems getting it altogether! (But this is NOT a function of encroaching old age - ask my friends and family - I've unfortunately ALWAYS been this way!)
At any rate I've been babysitting Evan - Mondays through Thursdays while Nathan (who works at home on the 3rd floor until at least 530 - and sometimes until a LOT later than that!) and Lynn (who starts work on a semi-part time basis at 230 PM and works until LATE or who I spell so Lynn can catch some much needed sleep and regroup energies). Sherri babysits Friday through Sunday evening - and sometimes alternates on Tuesdays with me.
Re Evan - LOL - he sleeps through a lot, performs all necessary body functions, eats a lot and LOVES to (1) be carried by dad (Nathan) around and around the dining room table (we are talking N. walks VERY fast around the table - aerobic speed!), (2) dance to Winnie the Pooh's Tigger song with Sherri, (3) relax and play with Lynn or watch her, (4) Waltz with me! and (5) listen to Sherri tell him story after story or (6) me - singing (he's the only uncomplaining audience I have! what can I say!) Oh - and SOMETIMES he sleeps! (unless it is between 430 and 730 PM when he wants SOMETHING - other than eating/sleeping/walking or something - just don't know what! Frustrating to figure out WHAT it is he wants!)
Finally yesterday - Nathan scooped him up and took him over to the play mat and set him down so he could see himself in the mirror and had a couple of jingly toys that his little hands could smack when he moved them. Evan was totally entranced! (I think NATHAN doing this was the key! I tried the week before - and Evan was NOT impressed - trust me on that one!)
LOL - I could (and have) gone on forever about Evan! But I meant to bring up some changes in the way I think I want to do this blog!
And, yes, once again - having a blog to focus on makes a BIG difference in whether I drift along, not completing tasks I said I would do - or whether I at least ATTEMPT to accomplish things!
(1) I re-joined Spark Page. All my efforts at losing weight so far are yuck! and I ended 4 pounds HEAVIER than when I started! Admittedly - I am still ODD (that is oppositionally defiant disorder for those who want to know - although I AM somewhat Odd at times as well!) and so I think I may have to focus on the exercise part more than the food part and just try to stay somewhat in bounds. I also think that for a while at least, I may be re-starting my diet pretty much on a daily or even twice daily basis!
(1a) Overall goal weight is 145 pounds - which means I have 40 pounds (currently) to lose OVERALL. My interim goal - or short range goal is to lose 5 pounds a month, or 15 pounds during the time I'm on the Biggest Loser team (Pink Panther is my specific team) but that is for the total period of time with the Winter Freeze Off challenge! - AND to increase my metabolic rate to something probably above 0+ (although to breathe, eat and sleep - I am spending some energy so I know my metabolic rate is higher than 0!)
(1b) I also joined Spark Coach - which is good - and I'm doing my best to go with the program, diet not withstanding!
(2)I've ordered (and recieved) the next set of books (yup, I'm delusional! I actually believe I will complete all the educational "lesson books" I have! Oh - and this includes art (OK - so it IS on the K-3 basis - but I am truly impressed with this! Now to get the tools for making stuff!)
(3)I'm currently in Bonnie Hunter's quilt mystery - GRAND ILLUSION! Am excited about that!
I'm also #11 or less of being UFO Queen on Stashbusters (and you DON'T wanna be UFO Queen! Trust me! It's embarrassing!)

Yup! It's Friday - and boy! do I have news!!!! 10-24-14
I have a new name!!!!
It's Granny!
Yup! My son Nathan and his lovely bride had a gorgeous baby boy who was 7 lbs 5 oz at birth! All are doing great! Lynn definitely deserves accolades for maintaining good humor throughout her prolonged labor - which lasted from 346 AM Saturday through Wednesday at 1 when they decided that she truly needed to have a C-section. And grandson was born at just about 346 Wednesday AM with Nathan in the room and holding baby Evan.
Our new Koenig family member's name is Evan Eugene Wilson Koenig, which is a lovely name. Eugene is for Lynn's grampa and Wilson is for Nathan's grampa. Everyone came through the birth in great shape and I am so relieved. Love all dearly.
Now for pix - some of which I have and one of which is SOMEWHERE out there in cyber space!
I was going to post yesterday - but - true to form, caught a nasty allergy - or a cold - STILL not sure which so spent the day in bed and still at home today. Did NOT visit hospital during this time esp with that ENT thingy going around. While I probably have my usual allergy to the onset of late fall and winter, I do NOT want to take chances with Evan's health - or Lynn or Nathan's either, ftm! So frustrating!!!
Sherri - Lynn's mom - will be visiting them today which is great and that will give her some strong baby bonding time. I'm looking forward to some of the same once my body decides to get over or past this mess of sneezes, etc.
Funny story - we have all been giving my sister Karen a VERY hard time, teasing her that she would have to share the month of Oct. for a birthday month with her grand-nephew. In retaliation she had said that she would be delighted if he were born on her birthday. guess what! He was! LOL!!! And she's delighted!!!
Wonder if they will celebrate part of their birthday together??? I envision chocolate ice cream sodas in the future!!!!

Tuesday - looking back at Monday - (Today is 10-21-14)
Guess who will be BABYSITTING Junior!!!! Esp. when Junior will be walking! I'd best get in training NOW! |
Monday was a "preview" of events to become! Apparently Lynn had been experiencing some back labor discomfort since Saturday morning (starting at 346 AM) - and by Monday - same time - 346 - pain had intensified. So after a call to the dr., they were on the road to the hospital.
I got the call about 830 AM - and went over to feed their critters for them. Sherri met me over there - and together we decided that there was NO WAY we were going to wait happily at home - so off we went to the hospital.
Fortunately Sherri was driving - because I would have ended up at the wrong hospital. Nathan and Lynn had told me about one hospital they were thinking of pre-registering at - but didn't bother to tell me that they had changed their minds and were going to a different hospital (mostly because of the number of infant and mother deaths at the first hospital!!!! none of which I knew about!!!!). And of course, they said that they HAD told me - but - regardless, it turned out ok - because as I said, Sherri was driving!
Since this was a first baby, I knew I would probably have a long wait, I took a pile of books, plus a reading book, and a hexie project - figuring that I would have ample time to at least work on everything. To say that my powers of concentration were zilch was putting it mildly! I DID complete some things, with one unfortunately being some more hexies on my flower garden quilt. (Of course, now I have to take them OFF the flower discs - because I don't LIKE them!!!)
I tried to read The Cambrian Ocean - but, even though the writing is highly readable (which is a rarity, I assure you!), I haven't the slightest clue what I read - just that it was something about The Cambrian Explosion - but I don't know what!
I did enter some vocabulary items in my Russian notebook (I'm WAY behind) - then discovered that those vocabulary items were ALREADY in there - and I STILL didn't know them!
I stared at my math book - then picked up the reading book. I figured that since this was one of my favorites and has been read MANY MANY times before ("Ring of Fire" by Anne McCaffrey) that if I had no idea WHAT I read - I could always fill in the gaps from all those times before - and so that is what I did!
Sherri stayed with her James Patterson mystery - and has loaned me her copy. I tried reading it - but the words just wouldn't stay in front of my eyes.
Nathan popped in and out of the waiting room - in part to give us updated progress notes, in part because he hadn't eaten since early the night before and was starving - but mostly because he was having a very very hard time dealing with Lynn being in pain - to the point that he said that he couldn't put her through this again - and that it would be adoption all the way from here on out. Which, considering the number of children world wide in need of good, loving homes makes good sense - at least to me. However, that is what he says NOW. Once that baby is born - I am also thinking that BOTH of them will change their minds and want more kids. But that adoption will also be a part of their family plans - at least somewhere along the line.
Before Sherri and I left to go to the hospital, I had also called Wendy and my sister Karen (who also thought it would be truly fine for the baby to be born on HER birthday - which is the 22nd - and which is now a distinct possibility!!!! I suggested that a day between the two birthdays could be a wonderful bonding experience and a birthday celebration just for the two of them when she would come to visit!!!! I think she liked that idea!!!)
At any rate - Nathan and Lynn are back home - still expecting and Lynn is STILL having some backlabor - but nothing like before. I'm thinking that esp. since DUE date was last Saturday, and we have now had our false alarm - that the baby will decide to settle down and get serious for real now - ANYTIME!
Because yesterday re house and study was basically a washout - I'm pretending it is Monday all over again and starting Monday's schedule ALL over again!!!

- Zone 4: Mission #1 Monday - Your mission for today is to set your timer for 15 minutes and gather up somethings that just don't belong in your bedroom. Spend 5 minutes gathering and 10 minutes on a delivery mission to either put things away or toss them in the trash!
- Zone 4: Mission #2 Tuesday - Today is the day to attack the clothes pile. Now you all know what I am talking about. This pile is either on a chair, on top of the hamper, dresser or at the foot of your bed. Set yourtimer for 15 minutes and grab some hangers or start folding. While you are doing this do not hang up or fold something that you hate! This is the time to let it go!
- Zone 4: Mission #3 Wednesday - It is anti-procrastination day and we are going to clean off the nightstands! Get the tissues, cups and stuff that have piled up, toss and put away. The grab a feather duster or dust rag and dust the surface. Place a pretty candle or picture there. Something that is new to that spot that you love to see. Waking up and not seeing a pile of things on the nightstand and a pile of clothes will make your morning a little brighter!
- Zone 4: Mission #4 Thursday - Yesterday we worked on the nightstands and today we are going after the dressers! Get rid of anything that is not necessary. Instead of a pile up of cosmetics, place them in a ziploc bag and then store them in a drawer when not in use. For perfumes and colognes, toss what you no longer use and place you favorites on a pretty tray, plate or mirror. Keep this space neat and clutter free, you will love to wake up to the flat surfaces in your bedroom decluttered.
- Zone 4: Mission #5 Friday - Today is the day to remake your bed. This may take a little longer than usual but so well worth it. Strip your bed and remake it. Get someone to help you flip the mattress, if you can't then try just to turn it around. If you have some fabric spray such as febreeze, spray your mattress and pillows. Then place those crisp freshly washed sheets and blanket on. Take extra care when making the bed. Really tuck those corners in and fluff the pillows. An extra tip is to toss your pillow in the dryer with a dryer sheet for added freshness and fluff. Use your bedspread or comforter and make up the rest of the bed. Take your time and know how much you will enjoy getting into your bed tonight and how wonderful it will feel. Maybe tonight you will go to bed a little earlier or stay in bed a little longer tomorrow morning just taking some time to enjoy something so simple yet rewarding.

Dear Friends:
We are in the last day of Zone Three! Your mission in the bathroom is to mop the floor. Now, you can do this with some hot soapy water and a rag or mop. There is no perfect way to mop. Just get the floor wet, wipe it and dry it!
Your mission for the Stash and Dash space is to do a 27 fling boogie in the space. Grab 27 things to throw away, give away or put away! Now you have seen how you can work on these stash and dash spaces a few minutes at a time every day and make a difference. - Bath

Dear Friends:
The bathroom sink is calling you! Let's shine our bathroom sinks and counter tops. Scrub the sink and the faucets, wipe downwith Windex (remember to be careful that you are not mixing Windex with any bleach products, make sure you rinse very well before using the Windex). Take time to wipe down your counter tops and give them a shine as well.
Your mission for your Stash and Dash space is to go back again to throw away anything that needs to be tossed or recycled. We are going back to do this again because now that we have peeled back one layer it is very possible that there is more to be tossed or another space to toss from.

Which Is Better???
First of all - there IS a dark purple inner border and the binding will also be the same dark purple. The problem(s) arise starting with the next border. I probably will keep the next border with the roses (I found more fabric tucked away in my stash!).
These are some of the possible combinations I found - and, honestly, I'm on the fence! Let me know which you think will be best. I can't guarantee I will choose that one - but I will certainly take it under strong consideration.
As for WHAT this quilt will be - that's a difficult question. I could turn it into a baby quilt, a table topper, or use as a wall-hanging - and it probably will be either the baby quilt (I've made 4 or 5 already!) or table topper.
1. Two (2) borders - the dark purple and the floral with a dark purple binding. I like this BUT it is (a) too dark - maybe, (b) tends to emphasize more the pink in the roses. Maybe. |
3. Four (4) borders - like the above EXCEPT the yellow strip is now at probably 1.5-2 inches. I'm not sure but I think I like the narrower yellow border more. |
5. Like the above - except that now the squares are a variety of yellows. My biggest problem with this is that the yellow squres tend to fade out and I think maybe detract rather than add. |
6. Ok - now the 2 strips of floral are together with the innermost strip really being part of the square in a square. I like this better than #5. |
