Well - this week I have excuses.
Of course, I STILL don't do as much as Judy does (who ALSO gets yarn time in even with all the other stuff she does!!!!) But for me - well..... (Whine coming on!)
This week I gardened, read, gardened, napped, planned, put up food, and for the most part (gasp!) procrastinated! I STILL don't have the needles the size I need - and am STILL positively drooling over the Dreamspan patterns - as well as a whole bunch of other patterns (including Owlies - who knew!!!!!) At any rate - it didn't happen! Who knows - maybe this next week will be different and I will knit up a storm? (gotta be easier than NOT adding stitches when I'm not supposed to be.....)

Yippee! It's FRIDAY!!!! WAIWO 08-30-13B
Weeding outside is done - and tomato oils washed off my arms - TG! That stuff ITCHES - almost worse than the mosquitoes! Still and all - it is cool here - cloudy - but cool!
Met one of the moms of the kids today - showed off my garden - later after she left - I looked around at all the empty spaces (thank you, birds!) and thought OH my! Pitiful! Still and all - am glad I have what I do! Her garden isn't doing really well either - their tomatoes are just not ripening - and yes, everything is sooooooo slow growing as to come almost to a standstill! I thought it was just me and my ineptness! I've been really glad to have tomatoes - although have got now almost a canning lot again which would be fine if I had lids! My beans are also growing - and blooming - and that is even for the fall planted beans. Hers aren't. I offered to give her some tomatoes - but they're on the way to visit relatives. So maybe I'm not so bad a gardener after all - provided I don't count the birds!
LOL - Nathan STILL forgot to bring over the eggs he got for me - so I think I'm on my own re eggs and all - at least until next week!
Re housework - can we say this is NOT my favorite thing? And if so, then what gave you the clue??? Could it be (gasp) that I have carried the SAME assignment in one form or another for the last 2 - 3 weeks (or months - whichever!) Regardless - at least the living room is DEFINITELY on the schedule for today! My kitchen is pretty well decluttered - but I want to get it done the rest of the way (yard sale coming up!) - and videos and dvds are part of the living room scene. Besides if I do a marathon of movies (while quilting!) I want to watch movies I haven't seen before or at least recently - so I can keep those separated out - and then give a keep or dump after I watch them. Dining room - as always - may be on a survival mode.
MOSTLY today I want to get Back to Square One completely caught up! I will feel soooooo much better if I do! And even better yet if I get the Hurricane Sandy thingy done and bound and OUT OF THE WAY!!!! Re the 4 patch - that really isn't on the GOTTA DO IT list until next week when a lot of swaps are on that same list!
Dehydrating foods is a definite MUST for today - either that or I will start to lose veggies and I don't want that!
TODAY.............

Thursday's WAIWO - 08-29-13
9 patches and snowballs Block I did for charity swap |
The kids in the apartment upstairs came back yesterday for a brief time (long enough to drop stuff off and then mosey off to visit and party with friends elsewhere!)
Just came in from weeding/thinning/harvesting/planning my garden (planning is for NEXT year! - and to build CAGES this winter!) LOTS of tomatoes - my little chat with the Brandywine tomatoes seems to have borne fruit - literally! LOTS of Brandywine tomatoes!
And, of course, the tomatilloes which have been cute and perky all year long - have decided to get in on the act - and so guess what is going on tomorrow - checking and harvesting some of the tomatillos (only ones where the husk has split however. However I found I can store these little thingies in their husks in the refrig for up to a week - I just want to store them for a couple of days! All this mostly because I bet that if I found 3 fruits that are ready - that there are a bunch more that I haven't checked that are ready as well. And my hands are FULL today already!
Didn't get to eat at son's last night - it seems he allowed himself to become seriously dehydrated - and while he was now hydrating himself (water) - he still felt lousy! Have BTDT - and you can have some SERIOUS problems result. At this point I suspect he will probably need to carry a thermos of water with him wherever he is - because if he's like me - he will now dehydrate - and do so VERY VERY quickly - and salt is NOT an option! Seriously! If I start feeling REALLY thirsty, it is seconds before I feel desperate for water, and only 2-3 minutes before I start tossing my cookies with hospital time following shortly thereafter. Hopefully he won't be that bad.
TODAY.............
DONE and it was great! Another nap!

Stash Report for Week 34 - 08-25-13
Oops! This is Wednesday - NOT Sunday! Sorry about that!
While a lot got done last week - it was on the order of swaps (see the new swap page!), garden, house and other stuff outside of the house - not so much on MY quilting! Which is sad - especially since I'm in a challenge to FINISH up some things - Flimsies (if not done already), the BTDT whole Megillah quilt if flimsies were already done! Well - better late than never!!!
Figures WILL change for next week - mostly because my flimsy that WAS completed will come off NEXT week's stash report!
08-25-13 -Week 34 -

Wow - Wednesday - already! 08-28-13
WHY do I want to say it is Tuesday???? I've had it in my mind that it is Tuesday all day! Maybe it has to do with some schools starting up yesterday - and I associate first day of classes with a Monday??? Ya think?
Re that - I got my first sub call yesterday ... unfortunately son had my car so I couldn't have gone to teach even if I had been able to move faster than a slow shuffle!
Slow shuffle - got the results yesterday - yup! I have TWO bone spurs on my left heel! Not being content with just one bone spur - or just plantar fascitis - I had to go for two bone spurs - like going for the gold! NOT! Treatment is still the same - essentially nada - except for my "little old lady" shoes that I still have to get (currently I'm wearing low 1 - 1.5" heels - but no real side support and no real arch support either). That has to wait for $$$ first part of Sept.
Garden looks great - EXCEPT for where the sweet corn (just about all is done for!) is knocked down by the "critter" - or by the squash vine - whichever! Squash - 2 kinds - both winter - Summer squash is still only 2.5 inches tall! Tomatoes are coming in nicely - although one bush of the Romas has yet to have a single tomato on it that isn't beginning blossom end hit (healthy bush - sick fruit!). My Brandywine tomatoes are starting to ripen although I thought I had RED Brandywine tomatoes as opposed to PINK! NO! Still and all - they are wonderful - and HUGE! Zebra tomatoes - very good and will do those again! Kellogg's - I will try again next year - I'm NOT impressed with this year's harvest.
Eggplants are still setting on fruit - so far averaging maybe 3-4 eggplants per bush. Sweet peppers and the hot peppers (at the opposite end of the garden) are just starting to do their thing - so I'm letting them! root crops and salad crops - well, let's just say that the pigeons are getting VERY fat and sassy! and I'm starting to think of squab pie! I'll be lucky to get a dozen beets out of the group - and forget the mustard, fall lettuce, spinach, kale and chard! Disgusting is what it is! With exception of my Chinese cabbage (michihili - wish I had my favorite one planted!), this winter I'm making CAGES for my salad plants!
Butterpeas are merrily tooling along - as are the field peas which is great - and the fall planting of beans is just starting to do their bean thing - hopefully this will mean more of the French Filet that my family is so fond of!
HOUSE - ummmmm - parts have been royally decluttered. Then there are the OTHER parts - the ones I am avoiding!!!! That is, I'm referring to the Dining area and the study. Living room MOSTLY has been decluttered - excepting videos and dvds which I need to do! Kitchen has been mostly decluttered - but it mostly gets rearranged when the dining area stuff is complete. Dining area - table decluttered - and most of the floor is - but I STILL don't know where to stash that blasted greenhouse! And am thinking seriously of either (1) re-homing it, (2) sizing it down for cold frames which makes more sense anyway - and which I have room for, (3) putting it up - SOMEWHERE (in an alternate universe? because I'm not sure I have room enough for it in this one!), (4) putting it down in the basement H*** hole - with all the spiders..... uh, a big NO on that one!
Studies are still on holds - and I have part of the curricula I will need for the rest of this year - exception being the math for the next level. Russian will continue, as will social studies (separate books and I have all I need for probably the next year), Same with Science - which will be followed by a unit probably on geology - that one I will have to get books and materials for. Creative writing - I have the next level - but need the one after that which I expect to get to about January - maybe. I have all the rest I need currently for Religion, music, art - but will need to get a good book on history of music, think I might still have 2 good books on history of art - do need to get something for the how to make various instruments etc. - but that is still a bit away.
TODAY.............

Flimsy Finish!!!!
Actually - I finished this flimsy last night - just didn't post it! LOVE this - and honestly, didn't think I was going to!
Flimsy is Summer Breeze by Kim Brackett in her book Scrap Basket Surprises.
I would have gone on to start quilting - but that currently is under discussion. Originally I had wanted to do a yarn tie - pink yarn, at that. However as my dd Wendy pointed out - kitties (I have 4) LOVE to eat yarn as well as play with it - so - we are now talking about quilting - and I have to think about what and how I'm going to do that - and FMQ or walking foot.
Finally found enough pieces to finish up all 3 borders (2 for one end and one for other) Finished last night! |

Graceful Tuesday.... WAIWO 08-13-13
Well, piddle! I went to see the dr. today about this stupid heel, hoping it was just a stupid heel and not something more serious like an infection. Dr. asked me what I thought it was - so I reviewed all possibilities that I had thought about.
Infection? Nyet - temp on both heels about the same - no swelling present! Broken bone? - no swelling present and there hasn't been. Stone bruise? Should have been a LOT better by now - instead it continues same old, same old! Abscess? See infection - so that is also a no. Wanted confirmation that there was no strange growth that I didn't see - and all was ok. So - of things left - most likely plantar fascitis (and here we go into unknown territory on my spelling!) Was concerned it might have been a spur on my heel - but that was a probable no as well since I should have noticed that LONG ago! Of course pain could have just crossed some threshold or other which is why I'm feeling it.
So most probably the plantar thingy. Ugh! what to do? (1) correct how I'm walking (that I had already figured out - just hadn't done enough of it!) You see, when I walk - I STALK - SLAM that heel down then stride forward, rolling my foot as I do so. True fun - espec. with arches that like to not help a whole lot too!
And how do I correct my walking? Other than just trying to remember? wear slight heels so that I carry my weight NOT on the heel of the foot but more towards the ball of the foot. The nurse had suggested strongly that I wear Dr. Scholl's shoes - which I think is a very good idea. Strange thing - which makes me want to giggle actually - years ago when I was 20 and newly married, my then husband took me to a foot specialist - who said I MUST wear heels - not HIGH heels - but heels and MUST wear tie shoes. At that time the only shoes that fit the bill were what we called little old lady shoes. And so that's what I wore - arch supports and all - and once my foot got past the agony of being somewhat rearranged - I could go for hours in those.
Problem was - I was in my 20s and not only did my friends give me a really hard time about that - but my mother (who HATED Al) gave me a VERY hard time about it pretty much constantly. After my divorce, I eventually got rid of the shoes (wore them out, I did!) - but I DID stay with tie shoes that gave my foot some support. No heels though.
So - now - what do I get to wear????? LOL - Little Old Lady Shoes - but Baby, those shoes have come a LONG LONG way and no longer look like the same kind of clunkers they did back then! TG for that!
I must say though - I DO like the part where I stay OFF my feet as much as possible! Gardening - well - yeah I gotta do that! But housework? Nah! That's on my unnecessary list! Wonder how long I can get away with that!
Oh yeah - I also get to wear BED shoes at night! Oh joy! More sweaty hot feet! Sure hope my cats don't get in the way if I turn over suddenly!
Clonk!

Stash report for week 32
This past week was the week of swaps. Lots of fabric sent out - but then I got the same amount of fabric back! DID buy in a FQ of fabric - but then that went out the same day - as a FQ (we were doing a Fruit Basket Swap) So I'm not even posting about that!
HAD hoped to finish up the flimsy and maybe quilt the Summer Breeze quilt - however I did SOMETHING with one of the end borders - NO idea what - and am sure I will find it when I piece together a new border for the missing one. The missing blocks for the 3rd border I already figured out what I did with them - and they DID look nice in the swaps! However I have other fabrics that will look nice in this scrappy quilt!
Soooooooo - now having ALL of my August swaps done - I am READY TO GO! and hope to accomplish major things this week!
Used This Week: 0 yard
Used This Month: 0 yard for August
Used Year to Date: 15.88 yds.

Hurricane Sandy quiltlet or table topper - whichever! Will be machine tied this week - ran out of time and oomph last week! |
Baby Quilt #1 - will be quilted using walking foot - wish I had more of that yellow - would like to add another border or so - however - this is the size that the pattern recommended! |
Judy L's Back to Square One Medallion - BOY am I behind - want to catch this one up this week! |
Sampler blocks - MUST MUST MUST finish these this week - and send out emails. If folks don't respond to individual inquiry - then off to charity quilt they go! |

Monday, Monday - isn't there a song that starts like that???? WAIWO 08-12-13
Hmmm - Since I didn't get really anything done yesterday - today is the day I do yesterday's chores! Being a day out of sync (at least a day!) is not really that unusual for me anyway!
Thinned a bit in the root part of the garden - LOTS of thinnings! Will be thinning tomorrow - more radish thinnings, plus beet thinnings. Radishes - I figure I can thin one row a day. Maybe!
Also weeded - a lot! - in my herb garden which was just about to get lost in the weeds!
Lots of tomatoes coming on - and - Woohoo! One of my Brandywine tomatoes is starting to ripen - FINALLY!!!! I've decided that the one that I've gotten ripe (almost ripe) tomatoes from before is a Kellogg's - also an heirloom! Another heirloom I have planted is the Old German - but that one will be FUN to figure out whether or not it is ripe - since it is greenish when ripe! Still I figure it will be wonderful in my fried green tomatoes - and am looking forward to it! Plus - I hope I get enough this year to make green tomato pie (takes ALMOST ripe tomatoes!) and green tomato mincemeat. And then - IF I get canning lids - there are canned green tomatoes, green tomato pickles, etc., etc.! Almost makes one wonder if I'm sad when the tomatoes finally ripen!
Made quite a few phone calls - including re-scheduling dr. visit about this stupid heel of mine - which really hurts - but car at present is in Sturbridge - and it was all a mis-communication on my part! Anyway - will be seeing Dr. tomorrow - and will probably get x-ray as well.

Design Wall for Week 31
It HAS been busy! And on top of it all I messed up my heel on one foot - NO idea what I did - hopefully didn't break one of the little bones in there!
Mostly I worked on swaps - finished up, re-did some swaps and did a bunch of others. And I also made a LOT of string blocks and a few crumb blocks as well.
And then there are the scrappy stars......
A completely separate swap - 53 4-patch blocks for Southhampton quilt shop swap
This leaves a swap for my dd (will post picture later - have question about one of the fabrics) which is a swap of 50 4-patches.
I hope to catch up on my Back to Square one quilt (am only 5 months behind!!!!) and then to work on doing the quilting on at least one or more quilts.

Stash Report for week 31
Wow! August - ALREADY!
I feel like I should have LOTS of yardage gone to report. That's what I feel like! Reality is.... I've been doing swap blocks - and they took TIME! Yardage - well, I get back what I put out - so it's an even trade!
And I'm not going to even count my string and crumb blocks!
However I am catching up! Only one more swap set to go (50 blocks - only 3 less than those for SH quilts and that one is DONE for the month!) Also am catching up on some behind BOM things!
