Stash Report (just a tad late!) - Week 17 - 04-29-13

Hmmm - Monday already - which means the Sunday I thought was Saturday was really Sunday while the Saturday - I have NO clue what I thought THAT was!

Noticed several things this mornings....

  1. Sometime in March I wanted the years to hurry up - so was dating everything with the year 2017.  Wonder what happens then that I "remembered" that date!
  2. Last 2 weeks in March and almost all through April - I must have decided to react against that advance in years - and set everything back to 2012.
Well, all's fixed now!  Guess the advance and regress of years were my way of thinking that the year was not what was important - it is only the here and now and what we do with that which is.

Which means I need to get my rear in gear and finish up the garden today - or at least for the month of April in this area (beans, corn, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peppers and eggplants are for NEXT month - May!  All else being equal!  Hopefully!)

Anyway - quilt wise - nothing added, nothing subtracted.  I DID sew - some.  Gardened - more.  Taught - some.  Studied - a bit.  And spent 1-2 days in an ostrich state of "I don't wanna do anything!"

04-28-13 (see - the year has been FIXED!) - Week 17 - Used This Week: 0 yard
Used This Month: 4.2 yard for April
Used Year to Date: 12.88  yds.

Added This Week: 0 yards
Added This Month: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 30.59 yards

Net Used for 2013: - 17.71 yards

And..... once again it is THURSDAY!!!!

Aaargh!  What is that old saw about the best laid plans of mice and men???  Oh well, then too - I'm WOMAN - not man! so why should yesterday be such a surprise to me?  Nice though it was!

I got a call 20 minutes before starting time (I was in my PJs, no lunch packed!) to please come in and substitute.  I did - and ended with several groups of 6th graders and 1 group of 8th graders.

As per usual - the planned lesson plans lasted only about 20 minutes of the hour - Sooooooooooo   - we played games - sorta!  Games were based on the movie that the kids saw (all saw movie - 6th graders saw one of them and 8th graders saw a different one - and had a test!) - and based on either charades (fairly successful - first group), what's wrong with this picture (6th graders divided into groups and one group presented - not as successful) to ME presenting (yup - that was the fun ones!

The food safety group - all the kids were engaged - and we all had fun while I (in my guise as super mess-up) walked through my day messing up as much as I could - kids told me what was wrong - we did get a bit loud though - when another teacher poked her head in the door and thought the kids were acting out (they weren't - I was in the poor me while contaminating everything in sight) - which I explained what we were doing and apologized for the noise, etc.

The last group - we did a similar thing - only with Fast food choices - what would have been better? with me doing a grab and go skit of visiting McD, Burger K., or W's - this one was not as successful - but was fun, nontheless.!

Of course - after talking about food choices and Angus burgers (with fried onions) and hot caramel mochas and diet coke - and all the caffeine/sugar/salt/fat/chloresterol and on and on.... when school was over - I was starving!

So I stopped at McD and got a Big Mac and hot caramel mocha with a large root beer on the side.  Makes sense, no????

Then I came home, collapsed on the bed and slept a solid 3 hours!  LOL  Needless to say - I did NOT get a lot done otherwise!

On the picnic tablecloth front - I put out a "how do you thread it" question to a group of folks - and WOW did I get a lot of answers!  I guess I wasn't the only person out there who had problems threading a needle with yarn!

On reconsideration though I DO think I will probably tie the tablecloth with embroidery floss rather than yarn - still would love to quilt some patterns on there - but tieing doesn't mean that I can't quilt later - when I know how!

HOUSE (15 minutes at a time!)  4 x 15. - I just picked up, put away - and said - NO - maybe on Friday!
  • Peggy's picnic tablecloth - "gifted" to me by a friend.

Design Wall for Week 16 - 04-22-13

This past week I've spent almost the whole time outside raking leaves in the front yard, piling sticks  and waiting in vain for the call back from the city to tell me whether or not they will pick up sticks curbside.  I've also tilled MOST of my garden, planted 4 16-foot x 4 foot beds of potatoes and root crops (excepting onions!!), 2 16 foot x 4 foot beds of coles - most planted as seed to be transplanted later, 2 16 foot x 4 foot beds of salad crops and greens (I did include radishes and carrots here as salad crops), started to set up the potato beds as bins - like those that you pay a small fortune for - these are surrounded by hardware cloth wired to re-bar and filled with leaves and whatall as the potatoes grow (which hopefully they will!), and started 3 new 16-foot x 4 foot beds - either 2 for peas and one for sweet potatoes (I haven't figured out where the blackberry bush nor the grape vine go yet - provided I figure out where I hid the grapevine!), had son haul in bags of mulch for the trees and told him the plans for 2 additional trees (dwarf) as well as the landscape fabric he suggested along the fence which would be for flowers!  maybe roses????

Game plan was to spend a while outside - then come in, study and quilt the rest of the day.  Instead I spent a LOT of time outside, came in and collapsed into sleep (neighbours noisy again - 3 AM!!!!!!!)

So the week was only semi-productive!

That being said - it's my excuse for NOT getting more done!  (It DID rain Saturday - so I pieced!) - and I'm sticking to it!

Other thing - some of my quilts I re-homed elsewhere.  So those won't be seen again after this week - hopefully!

Son also inquired about HIS and LYNN"S quilt (I showed him as well as dd all the quilts I am rehoming - didn't want any major objections - good thing I did too!)
